Latest Gold Star Awardee
Meet our latest Gold Star Awardee reaching Kumon Math Level G (positive/negative numbers and algebra) by Grade 5 and his proud instructor.
Well done K.M.!
Meet our Latest Level J by Grade 6 Achiever : Heidi S.
Heidi is 11 years old and studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. She just achieved Level J by Grade 6, and her ultimate goal is to become a Kumon Reading Program Completer in 2021. Heidi’s passion is to read books (she reads more than fifty books in a year). Her teachers describe her as a "voracious reader."
Imagine an 11-year-old reading and comprehending Shakespeare plays and complex books such as Pride and Prejudice. One of the things that Heidi likes most about Kumon is that she can learn on her own without waiting to be taught.
Kumon gives me confidence because “It has (Kumon) has challenged me to learn advanced concepts that I would not learn in my grade level. Kumon is helping me to develop academic excellence, character and life skills.
Heidi embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded The Kumon Method.
Toru Kumon believed children have an inherent potential to grow. Through their practice of reading, writing, and calculation, students develop the confidence to learn on their own.
K.M. and his proud Grandpa.
Bella P. Advanced Students Honour Roll ( 1 Year Above Grade Level)
Bella started in our Early Learner Program when she was 6 years old going into grade1. Currently, Bella is going into grade 3 as an Advanced Student Honour Roll 1 for Math and Reading (1 year above grade level). It is amazing that a child that has not started grade 3 is solving long division, multiplication, starting to reduce fractions and reading and comprehending passages from books such as "The Little Prince".
Bella would like to start her own business as a veterinarian when she grows up.
Bella’s work skills are impressive and her secret for success is to try to get her harder work done first so that she can enjoy the easier work at the end. She spends approximately an hour a day completing her school homework and Kumon worksheets.
When we asked her parents how has Kumon help Bella in school they said:
“It has helped her tremendously with the school. We initially enrolled her during the summer break between Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1 so that she didn't forget everything she learned in Kindergarten.
Bella progressed through several levels during the last two years with Kumon and is now ahead of her grade for both reading and mathematics.
The main difference this has made for Bella has been the confidence this has given her in answering questions and participating in discussions in class. In addition, having school moved online for much of the 2020-2021 academic year due to COVID-19, Kumon has allowed Bella to keep up with reading and mathematics during a particularly disruptive year.
Bella embodies what Toru Kumon our founder believed,” that children can advance one, two, three years and further beyond their school grade level if they are given material that is the just-right level of academic ability”.
Elena N. likes to challenge herself
Elena is a sweet, dedicated first-grader. Elena started in Kumon at the age of 4 when she was starting JK, and even though she attends French school she managed to make it onto the Kumon Advance Student Honour Roll (1 year above grade level) in the Reading Program.
Elena has a diverse range of hobbies ranging from skiing, crafting, building Lego, and reading storybooks.
Elena wants to be in her words.... "a kids doctor because she loves kids so much, she doesn't want them to be sick or hurt."
When we ask Elena what she thinks about Kumon, she said:
"I really like Kumon because it makes me happy to know that I am doing a really good job. I like to work hard and try my best and always try to get 100%."
This is Carma’s and Evan’s (Elena’s parents) experience with Elena being enrolled in Kumon:
Elena was very excited to start Kumon as she is always eager to learn. At the age of 4 and starting JK, Kumon provided her with confidence in her reading and writing skills. It also provided her with tools for school when it came to focusing on routine and independent work.
With online learning occurring along with learning a second language there was no concern that Elena wouldn't continue to stay ahead in her learnings and there would be no regression.
With the success Elena had in the Reading Program, she decided she wanted to continue to challenge herself and start the Math Program six months ago. Elena has reached Kumon International Standard and her next goal for math is to be on the Advanced Student Honour Roll (1 year above grade level).
