Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

To current and future students of Kumon,
As a Kumon student of 8 years, I have been able to see how I was incredibly benefitted by Kumon. During my earlier years at Kumon, there were points where I was unmotivated and frustrated when I didn’t understand certain concepts. Despite this, I am so grateful that I stuck through those years and continued my journey. Now, as a high school student who does math a grade level ahead, I was able to achieve the grade 10 math award. Kumon has played a huge role in my success in school and made me much more confident. Jordan and Daniel, along with all the Kumon staff, have helped me through my Kumon journey. The community as a whole is a very supportive environment and encourages students to do their best. Jordan and Daniel have helped keep me motivated and always check in. They even offer great advice and support with academics outside of Kumon. Randa has also been key to my success as she has taught me the Kumon material as I reached higher levels. Even when I may not have understood the first time or second, Randa was always willing to re-explain the material until I understood. I currently am on level L which covers content above my grade level. Since I have been able to see how beneficial Kumon has been to my academics and the great support I have received from the Kumon staff, I would highly recommend this Kumon centre to all students.
