My passion has always been challenging myself and others to grow in their knowledge, skills, and character. This led me to pursue work experiences in pastoral ministry, SAT prep, and eventually join Kumon North America.
As a Field Consultant, I learned from and worked with many Instructors on how they operated their Centers and provided instruction to their students. I thought Kumon was mostly about teaching students in math and reading until I started to understand that Kumon is so much more than just academic skills. It is about helping students to cultivate a self-reliant mindset and skills through countless hours of wrestling with materials they’ve never learned before and conquering the unknown through trial-and-error and finally mastering the concepts. They become the problem-solvers of future generations both in their personal lives and the society at large.
Captivated by the power of the Kumon Method and the power of instruction to motivate students, I worked 21 years in Kumon North America working with Instructors and students all over the country. As the VP of Instruction and Materials, I had wonderful opportunities of leading instructional initiatives to help Kumon Instructors to elevate the quality of instruction. I also got to mentor a group of excellent Kumon Instructors and Associates.
As the next challenge for my life, I decided to become a Kumon Instructor and work directly with students by taking over the Wesley Chapel South Center in August of 2021.
My wife and I have three boys who are currently in high school and middle school. Over a period of 6 years, they were able to complete both Math and Reading Programs by 6th grade. We saw from the parents’ perspective how difficult yet worthwhile this experience of doing Kumon worksheets every day can be. Kumon helped our boys to develop self-discipline, perseverance, time-management skills, integrity, academic skills and confidence that come from hard work. They can now reap the fruit of their work by not struggling in school and have free time to enjoy sports, learn new skills, and help other students. They are also valuable assistants at the Center helping other students.
I am thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful program to the families in Wesley Chapel area and help more children to become the problem solvers of their generation.
