Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Dear Dr. Ngo,
Thank you for being my Kumon teacher. Thanks to you, I learned a lot of new things in math and reading. This helped me get ahead a lot in school. Thank you for being such a nice and caring teacher. Whenever I was struggling, you helped me understand the concept. I have become a better student and person thanks to you. Thank you for everything!

Dear Dr. Ngo,
Kumon has helped me tremendously at school and my ability to do math and reading. Now, I can feel confident in my abilities to read, write, and do math no matter where I am. However, Kumon wouldn't have the same effect without Dr. Ngo. Without her I wouldn't have gone as far as I have. She has taught me discipline, how to be more confident, and the ability to apply what I learn to the real world. Without Kumon or Dr. Ngo, I wouldn't be where I am now.
Thank you,
Anna T.
Employees of the Year

Hello,
My name is Mehreen I., and for the past two years I have worked at the Kumon Center in Woodland, as an educational assistant. Although the basis of Kumon is socially known as teaching students to read, write and do math, I can say that the Kumon Center in Woodland is much more! The instructor, Dr. Ngo, takes much time, care, and consideration for every student she comes by. Not only does she teach the educational material, but she also assures that every student is comfortable with what they are learning and how they are learning it. As for her employees, Dr. Ngo takes time to ensure we understand the process of teaching every subject to each individual student. She reminds us that every student is different and that patience is important. As employees, we learn to understand our students and how we can help them better their educational abilities and in-class behaviors. From my experience, I can firmly say that Dr. Ngo and her employees are dedicated to helping the students succeed! We ensure that every student has a comfortable and supportive learning environment where they feel confident asking questions and comfortable making mistakes. I personally believe that Kumon can and does help students develop many skills, both educationally and socially.
Thank you!

I worked at the Kumon center in Woodland for just about 2 years and couldn't have asked for a better experience! Dr. Ngo hired me as a high school student with no previous work experience. It was the perfect first job for a high school/college student, with very reasonable hours and flexibility around other commitments. She provided adequate training and offered plenty of opportunity for growth in terms of responsibilities and pay. Dr. Ngo runs a tight ship, making sure students are well behaved and focused on their work, but she is also very receptive to both students and employees needs and treats everyone with respect and kindness. I learned so much in my time working at Kumon that opened up many doors for me throughout college, and I'll always have fond memories of working with the students there!
