Josie’s Story

Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.

One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.

“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”

Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Charlie and Grace B.

Charlie B. is a student at Lake Wilcox Public School in Richmond Hill.  Both Charlie and his younger sister, Grace, have been enrolled at the Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Aurora – Yonge and Edward since January 2018.  In just a short amount of time with his studies, Charlie has achieved significant success in the Kumon Math program:

  • Starting his Kumon journey at math Level A, Charlie continues studying math at the high school level

  • Achieved the significant Kumon milestone of attaining “G by 4” in August 2018 (studying Math level G before the end of grade 4)

  • Achieved the significant Kumon milestone of achieving “J by 6” in March 2019… exceeding the target and actually attaining “J by 5”! (studying Math level J before the end of grade 5)

  • Selected as a finalist (in the top 10% among more than 2,000 eligible applicants across all of Canada, The United States and Mexico) for attendance at the 2019 Kumon Student Conference

Not to be outdone, Charlie’s sister, Grace, is also well on her way to a lot of success through Kumon, having achieved “C by 1” in the math program in November 2018!

Charlie and Grace are wonderful examples of the potential and the success that students can achieve through the Kumon program.  They are both very hard working, independent, self-learners, and their love of learning through the Kumon program has helped them achieve a significant amount of success.

It has been an absolute pleasure to be their Kumon Instructor and to see them grow and develop and achieve the amount of success that they have.
