About theInstructor

Introduction

My name is John Redding, and I serve as the mentor who guides your children through their work, while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Academically, I have a BS in Aerospace Engineering (University of Illinois/Urbana); an MS in Mathematics (IIT/Chicago); and an MS in Civil Engineering (CU/Boulder). I also have a Professional Engineers (P.E.) license with the State of Colorado. In addition to working as an engineer, I have taught mathematics, physics and several other subjects at private schools. By far, being a Kumon instructor --- and seeing so many kids' academic abilities and confidence grow --- has been the most professionally-fulfilling position I have ever had.

My wife and I have a nine year old boy, a seven year old girl, and two dogs. We enjoy tennis, bicycling, Little League, hiking, gymnastics, swimming, instrumental music (French Horn and piano) and visiting every playground and pool in the area!

Biography and Background

I'm originally from northern Illinois, which you might pick up on when you hear somewhat of a Chicago accent or my complaining about the pizza in the area.

My original dream was to be a math teacher and tennis coach. However, my career path took me elsewhere... working as an actuary and engineer... then eventually teaching at a private school. Running a Kumon Center is the culmination and application of applying a love of math, language arts and teaching.

I have tried to create a learning center where kids love to come. In addition to enriching my students academically, they also have fun at the center: fun prizes from our treasure chest, gift cards to Grandrabbit's Toy Store, hot chocolates in the cold months and fruit juice slushies in the warm months, etc. Parents are treated well, too! There is coffee, tea and wifi for them in our comfortable waiting room.
