About the Instructor

Introduction

I took over this centre in May 2012 and ever since, I've felt a great deal of satisfaction and pride serving families in the Highgate community.

For years, I knew Kumon as the name of an effective method. When I started my own journey to become a certified Kumon instructor, I was amazed by the depth, precision, compassion, and discipline of this program. The love, knowledge, and dedication that have been put into creating each level and subject in this program are profound.

After extensive training, I started my job as a mentor and Instructor to guide my students through their work. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a child tackle a new topic independently and experience the joy, pride, and self-belief that comes with it.

Biography and Background

Know the instructor

My name is Toktam Rouhani. As the daughter of an ENT surgeon and a Cardiologist, I learned to love learning in order to help others from a very early age. As a child, I was a curious and independent girl who always preferred to try to learn everything by herself – my favorite hobby was reading. My first role model was Florence Nightingale, who amazed me with her work and love towards other humans. Under the influence of her biography and my families’ values, one of my goals was to be helpful and effective in people’s lives. The opportunity to be a positive influence in a child’s life is the greatest gift. As a second year Bachelor student in Electrical Engineering, I was fortunate enough to teach children aged 6 to 12 how to work with computers and DOS through to my graduation. Upon graduation, I went on to work as a Sales Consultant until I got promoted to Assistant Manager. At this point, I returned to school to continue my love of studying and pursued an MBA.

After immigrating to Canada and welcoming my child to the world, circumstances afforded me the opportunity to pursue a new career path. After extensive research, I discovered Kumon. The Kumon method, mission, and benefits spoke to me as a mother and as a professional. A good education and solid skills in reading and math are essential to a child’s academic and personal achievement.
