Louis F. earned the Level J award in math since joining Kumon of Castro Valley-Central in 2020. Louis began the program in 8th grade because he wanted to catch up with his school’s reading curriculum and he knew that he needed support to improve. Motivated to understand reading and math material at school, he made it a goal to concentrate better while studying and to work out calculations in his head.
While being in Kumon, he found he could do mental math quickly and efficiently. And because he was familiar with more advanced material from Kumon, once he encountered it at school, he was prepared for the lessons, which made him feel confident about doing the work. Instead of feeling confused when he receives classwork like before, Louis now approaches assignments sure of himself, he solves problems on his own, and he is focused when studying independently.
Since reaching Level J, Louis looks forward to completing the next math levels in Kumon and wants to take AP Calculus at school. He aims to study math and science after high school to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut.
