Kris Lachhander is an experienced professional with a background in both engineering and education. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. At University, Kris’s dedication to education and learning extended beyond his own studies as he found joy in tutoring his fellow classmates and students in math and physics. This passion led him to work as a lecturer in these subjects before starting his engineering career.
Following his graduate education and teaching, Kris worked as an engineer and has over three decades of experience in nuclear reactor design under several multi-national companies that include General Electric, Lockheed Martin, and Bechtel. Driven by his passion forteaching and mentoring, Kris opened a Kumon center while still pursuing his engineering career. He is energized when students “light up” after overcoming challenging concepts. His desire to help students learn and grown prompted him to open the center while still working full-time as an Engineer, because he embraces the Kumon philosophy of helping students to learn how to learn, a life skill.
Kris worked both jobs for over twelve years before retiring from his engineering job and focusing on Kumon full time. Kris was trained and certified in the Kumon method of learning by Kumon, North America. He truly believes in the Kumon method and is eager to share its strengths with parents and students.
Kris resides in Clifton Park, NY with his wife Lakshmi, and they have two sons and a daughter together. Outside of his role as a Kumon Instructor, Kris enjoys traveling, gardening, exercising, and learning about new cultures and innovation.
