While doing homework is not everyone's idea of fun, self-directed practice is essential both to mastering skills, and to the development of a growth mindset. Because homework is so important, at Kumon of Croton-On-Hudson, we take special joy in celebrating with students when they complete their assignments. Students who regularly turn in finished work receive tallies toward an array of prizes, and earn special tokens along the way in recognition of their hard work and personal achievements. The conferral of awards and prizes is one of the many ways in which we encourage students to develop a goal-oriented relationship with their work. We believe in celebrating short term accomplishments to help students build for the long term, because while doing homework is not always the most exciting way to spend your time, it should ultimately be one of the most rewarding.
