Katherine's Journey
Katherine began the Kumon program when she was 5 years old. Her parents felt that it would allow for a strong foundation. What Katherine did not expect was that Kumon would be part of her life until she was 18 years old.
She ended up graduating for a prestigious private school in North Dallas in the top 6% of her class where she was awarded as a National Merit Finalist. Katherine went on to attend an Ivy League University.
Through her time at Kumon, she shared “the brain is like any other muscle in the human body. It takes time, commitment, and discipline to develop skill and competency.” There were times where she wrestled with various concepts in the math program, but the nurturing of Kumon Instructor Mrs. Lin, she was able to gain encouragement to overcome these challenges. At ages 9 and 15 Katherine considered stopping the program; however, remembering what she had learned about perseverance and discipline she continued her journey.
Although Katherine’s journey at Kumon has ended, the life skills she continues to use in her twenties stems from the lessons learned early in her life.
