About theInstructor

Introduction

Betsy Cartwright Kruse, MBA, MHS

As I hope you will see from personal interaction with me, I have a passion for learning and opening new worlds of experience. This has influenced my decision to start a new career in education. I love learning and opening our minds to all the positive experiences our world has to offer.

I am a mother of 3 daughters, Caroline 22, Alison, 19, and Julianne 15. My husband, Kevin, and I live in Washington Crossing, PA. I am an avid runner and have completed 3 marathons (Richmond 2008, Chicago 2005 & Disney 2001). Half-marathons (13.1 miles) are now my limit and I completed the Hershey Half-Marathon twice (yummy chocolate on the course!)  My students help track my miles and see how training for a marathon (or half) is one way to demonstrate the value of daily dedication that can lead to much larger goals!

My BA in Chemistry is from Central College in Pella, Iowa and I have a MHS in Environmental Health Engineering from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. I spent 10 years in Environmental Health & Safety in the energy industry. I left that work to complete my MBA in Marketing from University of Chicago. A new career awaited me at Johnson & Johnson, and subsequently, healthcare software companies. I contemplated a teaching career, but was introduced to Kumon. Running a Kumon center has provided a wonderful opportunity to work with children, emphasize the value of a strong math & reading foundation, and help give back to my community in a very rewarding way!

Biography and Background

Betsy Cartwright Kruse, MHS, MBA

Hello!

Thank you for looking into Kumon!  I began my Kumon journey in 2004 when I was looking for a career that was more fulfilling than the typical 12-hour day corporate grind.  A friend introduced me to Kumon, and I was sold!  My husband, three daughters and I live in Washington Crossing, PA, although we are transplants from the Midwest.  As I hope you will learn from interacting with me that I love learning and I hope to bring that passion to all my students.  I am also a cancer survivor, which has given me a wonderful perspective on valuing the important things in life.  My daughters have all benefited from Kumon and my eldest, graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology in NY, is a program completer in both the math & reading program. Her strong Kumon math skills have helped her as she pursues a career as a Mechanical Engineer.  My middle daughter, in her second year at the US Air Force Academy, is also a dual-program completer. She uses her math, reading, writing and memorization skills every day at the Air Force Academy! My youngest, a freshman at Council Rock High School-North realizes that her Kumon math keeps her ahead of the school curriculum and makes classwork easy. She is applying all those grammar skills from Levels E and F in her writing and grammar tests in high school. Our whole family is involved in running and I have completed 3 marathons and several half marathons I've run the Hershey Half Marathon twice, the second time to celebrate my cancer remission! Chocolate and running are two of my favorite things!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Central College in Pella, IA, an MHS from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MBA from University of Chicago.  I love learning!  Before I began Kumon, I worked in a series of corporate positions at Amoco/BP, Exxon and Johnson & Johnson.  I found that  as fulfilling as they were, those jobs just didn't give me the balance I needed for family and work.

Kumon provides a wonderfully fulfilling environment where I see progress of my students every day  It is so rewarding to be part of their growth and see them achieve their potential!  I hope you decide to visit my center and become part of our Kumon Family!
