About the Instructor

My name is Hema Popat and I am the proud Kumon parent of two teenage boys and have witnessed their growth through the Kumon program firsthand.  I started my Kumon journey in 2012 when I transitioned from a very chaotic full time role in the financial industry commuting daily to NY, to start my own venture with Kumon within my local community.  My goal is simple; to achieve a better work/life balance for my family and provide a quality education to other children just as I am doing for my own two boys.  I have seen my boys transition from elementary school to middle school and then from middle school to high school seamlessly and enjoy the journey whilst achieving success in the classroom and Kumon has been the steady backbone throughout their journey.

Kumon is an extremely rewarding experience!  I have seen students succeed not only academically but also develop their study skills such as independence, focus, self motivation, tenacity, self-confidence, perseverance and become well rounded capable learners.  It is so rewarding to see a student transform along this journey and strike the confidence levels to believe that the sky is their limit!

I have completed the comprehensive Kumon Instructor training and am a certified professional instructor. I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

As a Kumon parent, I can relate not only to the academic hopes and dreams parents have for their children, but also to the day-to-day challenges that come with achieving them.  I am here to listen, help and guide you through this proven program that is sure to bring your child success!

I am a business professional and a Certified Management Accountant.  I have extensive experience in all aspects of Business Management in the financial industry and am also Six Sigma Green Belt certified. Amongst the many skills acquired whilst working in the financial industry, the main skill I continue to practice is customer service. I will listen to your concerns and touch base frequently to guide you and your student throughout the program. Parent conferences are available all year round and I make myself accessible to all parents outside of class hours.

I pursued my journey in Kumon so that I could be closer to our education system and be able to successfully guide my boys. Whilst this was my initial motivation to start the business, I have gained so much insight into our education system by observing my students, listening to my staff and parents who all bring different experiences to the center.

I motivate and guide students who come to the center to recover missing skills whilst others come to the center for more challenge with their work and to advance beyond grade level.  Kumon helps build more self-confidence, thus enabling students to become more self-reliant whilst tapping into their full academic potential.  My goal is to motivate young minds to develop into independent thinkers who can reach their full potential in life.
