Josie’s Story

Josie

Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.

One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.

“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”

Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Meet Saige

Congratulations!!

Saige enrolled in Kumon to get an academic advantage because she and her ohana had a goal of Saige attending Kamehameha Schools. Saige took her Kumon studies very seriously and consistently worked to build her skills and master concepts. While she had many qualities of a good student, her persistence in studying daily strengthened her confidence, independence and attitude towards learning. Ultimately, her concentration and effort earned her an acceptance to a very competitive school and we are positive that she will achieve many more great things. Ho'omaika'i Saige, IMUA!!

Meet Mikah

Mikah - Saint Louis

Mikah was one of the very first students to enroll in the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Ewa Villages - West. Mikah was just 3 years old, but his parents knew that he would have great potential and they wanted to set him up to be able to thrive. Through his studies he has been instilled with good academic values and developed a strong character of determination. He has learned the discipline of completing work daily and had the blessings of being well supported by his ohana at home and the staff in the center. As a new Crusader, we know he has a very bright future as he is studying content above grade level and ranked among the highest students for his age and level in Kumon.

By studying work that is above his grade level with expanded vocabulary and being able to quickly solve problems in his head, Mikah is able to easily and confidently complete work in school and it allows for him to stay ahead and stand out. We have no doubt that Mikah is a star student at St. Louis!
