About theInstructor

ANU DHIR is a certified teacher. She holds a degree in education and has had over 15 years of experience in teaching K-6 grade, before becoming a Kumon Instructor.

"Being a Kumon Instructor for over 13 years, I have experienced for myself that every child is different, every child learns differently and more so every child has a potential to learn and perform. We just need to give them the right tools and enough time to learn at their own pace. After having taught in schools and helping students learn at Kumon has made me believe that every child should get an opportunity to learn the Kumon Way".

Biography and Background

“The first principle of true teaching is that nothing can be taught. The teacher is not an instructor or task-master, he is a helper and a guide. His business is to suggest and not to impose. He does not actually train the pupil’s mind, he only shows him how to perfect his instruments of knowledge and  helps and encourages him in the process. He does not impart knowledge to him, rather he shows him how to acquire knowledge for himself. He does not call forth the knowledge that is within; he only shows him where it lies and how it can be habituated to rise to the surface."-Sri Aurobindo

My experience of teaching in a school run by Sri Aurobindo's Education Society helped me learn how to facilitate the learning process in children. When I became a Kumon Instructor, I found many similarities between the two philosophies and was able to transition from a school teacher to a Kumon Instructor smoothly as I was never expected to teach in either case.
