Julia's Story
Julia was one of my first students when I first began Kumon in Montreal in 1996. At that time, Julia was in second grade, and doing basic addition and subtraction through her Kumon worksheets. By third grade, she was doing operations with fractions as well as studying the Kumon Reading Program. By sixth grade, Julia was studying pre-calculus (Kumon level J) and had completed the Kumon Reading Program. Julia went on to complete the math program in high school, and as a consequence, easily skipped the last year of high school and went on to excel in her undergraduate and graduate degrees in math and computer science.
Today, Julia is in her mid-thirties. She formerly worked as a programmer for various companies but has become so successful developing her e-commerce that she now does that full-time. As a Twitter influencer. she is constantly interacting with others in her field and has traveled around the world presenting at conferences. Here is one of her video presentations at a conference. It will give you an idea about her energy and enthusiasm for learning and mastering new concepts even you are not a computer geek:
So you want to be a wizard
Julia attributes her ease navigating university and her career to the advanced self-learning skills she developed in her 8 years studying the Kumon programs. The fact that she constantly encountered unfamiliar concepts and then went on to master them gave her the confidence to problem-solve her way through just about anything in work and life.
