Neil's Story
Neil started his Kumon journey when he was only 4 years old. He is now 10, in 4th grade, and is on Level K in the Math and Reading programs. Already studying above grade level, he has an academic edge over his peers. In the Kumon Math Program, he is studying high-school level algebra working on finding the maxima and minima of quadratic graphs and equations of quadratic functions. He has a solid grasp on literature, having analyzed notable literary works such as Charles Dickens's, A Tale of Two Cities, and William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth. He is well on his way to completing the Kumon Reading Program - an accomplishment he will be proud of.
Neil's desire to further develop his analytical and problem-solving skills lead him to participate in prestigious math competitions. He was awarded the Grand Honors Award by Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth for scoring in the 99th percentile in Mathematics SCAT (School and College Ability Test). In addition to being recognized by Johns Hopkins Center, he has won many accolades in Math Olympiads these past two years. He received a perfect score and will qualify to receive the Dr. George Lenchner award for his performance at the MOEMS (Mathematical Olympiads for the Elementary & Middle Schools). He also received a perfect score at the online Math League (OML) competition. He ranked 3rd in State and National Level at the 2021 Math Kangaroo.
Neil got through the gifted program APAAS (Alternate Program for Academically Advanced Students) at school and is grouped with a cohort of high ability and independent learners. He is doing very well at school and his teacher indicated that his Reading and Math STAR scores are akin to that of a typical high school student. She wants Neil to be evaluated for placement into the Middle School Enhanced Math program.
Neil credits Kumon for all of his success. "Kumon has helped me build a better foundation in my understanding of math and kindled my love for reading. In my opinion, it's the only program that helps you learn how to solve problems with speed and accuracy. The beauty of the Kumon program is that it does not hold you back because of your age or grade and lets you advance at your own pace. Kumon has helped me to become more confidence in everything I do, and to believe in my potential. At Kumon, I have always been reminded of the importance to be disciplined and persevere through life's most challenging moments. With this mentality, I know that I can reach any goal that I set for myself."
