About the Center

Welcome to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Kingston!

Our center helps students from many local towns improve their math and reading skills, along with skills that prepare them to be more productive in the 21st Century.

For more than 50 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program, click here.

Registration Fee: $80 per student 

1 subject - Math or Reading: $170 per month 

2 subjects - Math and Reading: $320 per month

 

Enrollment Policy:

• Annual enrollment commitment recommended. Casual enrollments are discouraged. 

• Registration fee (one -time)

• First month's tuition 

• Last month's deposit 

• Placement testing: complimentary

Tuition can be prepaid for one year in advance (at 2% discount offered), otherwise it is collected by EFT on the 1st of each month. Returned EFT fees of $25.

Center Policies and Procedures during the Coronavirus Pandemic 

Kumon is a long-term program, not a quick fix. It is an individualized ability-based system of learning. Each student's work will be individualized and planned carefully by the instructor. 

Students will need to schedule their center visits in advance through SignupGenius. Kumon parents understand that Kumon requires a daily commitment on their part. When parents are serious about educating their children and developing life-long study skills, children will also engage and learn to respect learning, organize their time, and take responsibility for what is important in their lives. Parents must ensure that their children have the time to do their Kumon work by wisely managing the activities their child is involved in after school. Kumon needs to fit comfortably into your child’s routine every day. It cannot be rushed and cannot be the last thing your child does during the day. 

We provide instructions and support on how the work needs to be completed by students, how to "home grade" work, and how to understand what success should look like in each level and how to get there. 

Home Grading: Parents are involved daily in their child’s Kumon studies by setting specific times for work completion and by marking the Kumon homework, preferably as soon as the assigned worksheets are completed. Parents should mark and score the work with a red pen and using the answer book provided by us. At the top of the first page, please summarize the time taken for each set and the number of errors made in the entire packet. 

It is important for the parents to help us reinforce the messages we are fostering with your children every time they are in the center or in zoom, including: 

1. The quality of work is important, neatness is a skill to learn; 

2. Striving to achieve 100% accuracy is essential for building a strong foundation; 

3. Recording times correctly is an important part of the learning process and gives us needed feedback; 

4. Working continuously and diligently from the beginning to the end of each set builds strong concentration skills, attention to detail, and patience; 

5. Completing Kumon work every day teaches students responsibility for a small task; 

6. Keeping work organized (in page order) and returning it back to the center teaches students responsibility for their work studying examples and learning from mistakes develops self-reliance and self-learning skills. 

We cannot stress enough the importance of parents' involvement in Kumon. We are here to help, but we have to work together as partners to assure the fastest progress with ease and minimum stress on you and your child. Please stay in touch throughout your child's journey on how to work with your child at home, what learning milestones we are working to accomplish and to discuss anything that relates to your child’s Kumon work and progress. 

Holiday Closings: Kumon is a year-round program of study. Kumon homework is assigned 365 days per year unless otherwise requested by a parent at least one week in advance. Parents may request to have us schedule less work during vacations. We generally close the Centers for the following weekends: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, MLK Day, Easter, Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July. Additionally, we close for Christmas Break, Winter Vacation (February), and Spring Vacation (April).
