Ridhaan's Kumon Journey: Building Confidence Through Consistency

When four-year-old Ridhaan and his family moved to Canada in 2017, they were looking for something to help him establish strong academic foundations in their new home. They found Kumon, and it became the cornerstone of Ridhaan's educational journey.

Ridhaan's path with Kumon wasn't always straightforward. After his initial enrollment in the Math program, the family's move to Langley in 2019 created a brief pause in his studies. They resumed once settled, but by the end of 2021, Ridhaan was losing momentum and took another break. The turning point came in September 2023. With renewed determination, Ridhaan not only returned to the Math program but also added the Reading program to his routine. His dedication quickly paid off as he began advancing beyond his peers, eventually achieving and maintaining a level two years ahead of his grade in mathematics.

"The transformation we've seen in Ridhaan has been remarkable," shares his mom. "His school teacher now recognizes him as the strongest math student in his class. But the benefits extend beyond academics."

Perhaps most impressive is how Kumon has helped Ridhaan develop crucial life skills. Through his consistent practice routine, he's gaining valuable time management abilities and understanding the importance of sticking to schedules. These organizational skills are proving just as valuable as his academic achievements.

Ridhaan's story demonstrates that the Kumon Method isn't just about academic advancement—it's about building the confidence, discipline, and study habits that create successful lifelong learners.

From Student to Inspiration: Katie's Full Circle Journey

When Katie enrolled at the Walnut Grove Kumon center—then operating from a local community center—she was a third grader with supportive parents who wanted both her and her older sister to excel academically. Little did they know this decision would shape not only Katie's educational path but her professional future as well.

Katie immediately embraced both the Math and Reading programs. Her dedication to the Kumon Method paid off impressively as she progressed through the levels, eventually becoming a program completer in the Reading Program. In Math, she advanced well beyond her grade level, building skills that consistently kept her ahead of her school curriculum.

Kumon gave Katie a preview of what was coming up in school. When teachers introduced new concepts that might move at a fast pace for some students, she already had a strong foundation from her Kumon worksheets. It helped her stay on top of her academics with confidence. The impact of Kumon extended beyond academics. Perhaps most meaningful was her decision, along with her sister, to return to the center—not as students, but as encouraging supporters for younger learners.

In 2019, Katie's relationship with Kumon evolved further when she joined the staff full-time. Today, she continues to work at the very center where her own academic foundation was built. Working at the center brings everything full circle for Katie. She understands exactly what the students are experiencing because she's been in their shoes. She finds it rewarding to be an inspiration for younger students and to watch them grow and develop the same confidence that Kumon gave her.

Katie's journey embodies the lasting impact of the Kumon Method—creating not just successful students, but individuals who are inspired to help others achieve the same success they experienced.

Shaunit's Remarkable Kumon Journey: From Preschooler to Academic Standout

When four-year-old Shaunit joined Kumon in October 2023 alongside his older sister, his parents had a clear vision—they wanted their children to excel academically and stay ahead in school. While his sister enrolled in both Math and Reading Programs, Shaunit began with just the Math Program, taking his first steps into a journey that would soon reveal his extraordinary potential.

In just one year of studying Math, Shaunit achieved something remarkable for a child his age—he earned recognition as one of Kumon North America's Top 50 math students. This exceptional accomplishment showcased not only his natural aptitude but also his dedication to the daily practice that the Kumon Method promotes.

After this impressive achievement, Shaunit temporarily shifted his focus to the Reading program. When he first started, he couldn't read at all. Through consistent practice with the Reading Program, he quickly mastered phonics fundamentals and developed the ability to blend sounds and read new words as he encountered them—building essential literacy skills that typically develop much later. In December 2024, with his reading skills flourishing, Shaunit returned to the Math Program while continuing his reading studies. Now a kindergartner, he's studying mathematics at a level three years beyond his grade—already mastering division concepts that most children don't encounter until much later in their education.

Shaunit's story demonstrates how the Kumon Method can help even very young children develop academic skills well beyond typical age expectations. Through consistent practice and the carefully structured Kumon curriculum, he has built strong foundations in both math and reading that will serve him throughout his educational journey.

For his parents, seeing Shaunit's confidence grow alongside his academic abilities has been the most rewarding aspect of their Kumon journey. His remarkable progress in such a short time stands as a testament to both the effectiveness of the Kumon Method and the incredible potential that can be unlocked when young children are given the right tools and encouragement.
