From elementary to high school, Kumon made school a breeze. It put me ahead of what was being taught in school and provided plenty of practice in areas that I found difficult. In addition, Kumon's thorough programs in math and reading helped me develop self-discipline and the ability to learn independently, and these characteristics allowed me to learn new material, finish my homework, and study for exams in a more organized and efficient manner than my peers. As a result, I saved valuable time that I could then put towards engaging in a variety of extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and service opportunities that I was passionate about. While my K-12 school years have come to a close, I am certain that the strong educational foundation that Kumon has built for me will continue to come in handy as I continue my education at Harvard University.

The greatest gift Kumon has ever given me is the ability to learn independently. Contrary to popular belief, Kumon is not a tutoring center, and has never claimed itself as such. Rather, it proudly stands as a learning center, where students learn to stand on their own. Kumon teaches students not what to think, but how to think, which is arguably the most important aspect of innovation. From elementary school to high school, schoolwork and studying never took up much time, allowing me to juggle 6 extracurricular activities and a part-time job at Kumon. Where my classmates struggled with finishing homework or understanding the material, I excelled in powering through and preparing for assessments on my own; I could devote the rest of my time to activities I was more passionate about, a rare opportunity for any high school student. Though many things are uncertain about my path at Johns Hopkins University, I know, without a doubt, that the tools Kumon has imparted to me from all those years ago will be the key to my success.
