About the Instructor

Hello, I am Raj Honnaya, Center Director. Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center of North Haven.

It is an honor for me to be surrounded daily by motivated and polite students and a caring and conscientious staff at my center. Our primary goal is to work as a team to nurture the academic development of each child and guide them to attain their maximum potential. As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support, and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

I was first introduced to Kumon when I enrolled my daughter over 10 years ago. Kumon has been a part of our family ever since. I have seen my daughter grow with this program and fell in love with it so I decided to open my first Kumon Center in 2010.

I made a conscious choice of moving away from a successful career in IT operations and security to opening my first Kumon Center in Trumbull, CT. In addition to a Master’s Degree in Quantum Physics and Electronics, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, I have over 15 years of experience working with children.  I am very passionate about the Kumon Program and believe that every child has a unique ability. I will work with you to help your child attain his or her maximum potential.

I am very active in our community and am a proud sponsor of little leagues, as well as several local events in the community. I enjoy volunteering my time at Parent-Teacher organizations within the school community. I am an active member of the Girl Scouts organization and Alzheimer's Association. I encourage children to participate in "out of the box thinking" enrichment activities.

I look forward to meeting you and creating an individualized study plan for your children.

Training and Certification

As a Kumon instructor, I believe that it's very important that a child learns, and learns at his pace and abilities. Positive feedback and constant reinforcement and encouragement helps a child see his or her potential.
