As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, Woogie Son serves as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. Woogie's passion for education goes all the way back to his high school years when he tutored kids as a sophomore. He felt that tutoring was a short term solution and that retention required discipline and practice. He was always searching for a solution that was long term. When he was introduced to Kumon he knew that he had to bring this to other children and not just his own two sons. This inspired him to open his own Kumon Center in the Rochester area. Woogie's primary goal is to bring out children's confidence and potential while developing strong academic skills and a love of learning. He strongly believes that every child has unlimited potential to succeed and has mentored many children over the past 23 years through the Kumon Method. By creating an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and emphasizing the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of his students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, Woogie has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.
Instructor Woogie Son holds a degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to opening the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Pittsford and his second Kumon Center in Fairport, he was an electrical design and development engineer for Eastman Kodak for 23 years. As the centers grew he let go of that career to follow his passion for the Kumon Method. Instructor Son has two sons who both studied Kumon as children.
