About the Instructor

Nicole Mayer - Center Instructor

Hello students and parents! I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about my background and why I love working as an instructor at Kumon.

Biography and Background

I earned my BA in psychology from Ohio State University, and my MA from the University of Illinois at Chicago where I studied psychology and learning. Afterward, I taught psychology and learning courses at the university level for several years before joining Kumon.

Having worked at Kumon as an instructor for over three years, I can confidently say that I love what I do! We know that learning does not happen in a vacuum – there are many factors that influence how and why a child learns! I am passionate about finding what works best in each student’s unique circumstance as well as tailoring the Kumon experience to best meet their individual needs.

Learning is a life-long process and at Kumon it is also a two-way street. As I help children realize their potential as students, they help me realize my own potential as an instructor!

Maria Deniz, Assistant Instructor

Hello! I am very happy to be the Assistant Instructor at the Kumon Center of Plantation South. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you a little of my background.

I have a BA in Spanish from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an MS in Elementary Education from the New York Institute of Technology. For 17 years, I was a public school teacher in New York City, New York and New Jersey. My favorite part about teaching was the morning read-aloud at the rug. I remember the students becoming lost in the story, engaging in making connections and having interesting conversations that would help launch us into that day's learning activities.

At Kumon, I enjoy their non-traditional school setting and their individualized approach to learning. I look forward to getting to know all of you and watching your children grow!
