Josie’s Story

Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Success Story of Andrea R. M., 11 years old

"What you learn is yours to keep." That is what I always tell my daughter, Andrea. My husband and I enrolled her in Kumon Regina Rochdale when she was six years old, knowing that education is the most valuable inheritance that we can give her for her future. We chose Math for her Kumon subject to provide her with an academic advantage and make Math easier for her when she reaches high school and college. And Kumon delivered more than what we expected Andrea to achieve. Last year, she took the Canadian Achievement Test and got straight 9's (The highest mark you can get). Furthermore, she did not only learned Math in Kumon but was also able to establish good study habits.
While having Kumon as a supplementary discipline in her overall education, Andrea was also involved in sports before the pandemic, such as swimming, soccer, and jiu-jitsu. She even learned to play the piano and is presently taking voice lessons since she took a lot of interest in the theatre and singing. Andrea developed a love for Math and the Arts at the same time when she started Kumon.
Andrea, now a sixth-grade student, finished level C when she was in third grade and level J when she was in fifth grade. Currently, at 11 years old, she is now in level K. Despite these trying times, including online learning and a lot of changes, she is still a consistent Kumon platinum awardee (The highest Kumon award) and continues to pursue her goals one day at a time.
Thank you, Kumon Regina Rochdale, for helping shape my daughter cognitively and academically. It always takes a village to raise a child, and I am glad that Kumon is a part of our community.
