Practice is the Key to Success: How Dedication Changed Everything

portrait of student Priyana

For 10-year-old Priyana, playing both the flute and tennis is about much more than creating beautiful music or winning a match – it’s about the hard work that goes into it. Priyana quickly learned the value of practice from an early age, even when work got challenging. By setting goals and persevering to reach those dreams, she continues to reap the many benefits that come from her hard work because she understands practice is the Key to success.

“To become good at something you have to keep practicing to reach your goal,” said Priyana. “I know for anything I want to achieve, I have to work at it. Practice makes perfect. I’ve learned that daily practice and perseverance through challenging times pays off.”

Priyana’s parents enrolled her in the Kumon Math Program when she was only five years old. As she advanced, she gained confidence in her ability as a student, which has also poured out into her extracurricular activities. With a competitive edge over her peers, Priyana feels like she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to.

“Throughout my Kumon journey, I have had amazing Instructors who have always been there for me and pushed me,” said Priyana. “There have been some challenging times, but they are always doing everything to help me do my best. I am so proud to be Kumon Student – it has changed my life!”

Priyana was one of 56 students selected for Kumon’s 3rd Annual Student Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

“It was an amazing feeling to be recognized by Kumon after so many years of hard work,” said Priyana. “At the Student Conference I really enjoyed meeting so many accomplished Kumon Students, who have succeeded in doing inspiring work and making an impact in their communities.”

Priyana and the rest of the attendees had the opportunity to learn from each other through educational activities designed to foster team building, group discussion, critical thinking and creativity.

How do you continue to stay motivated when you feel like your work becomes challenging?

Kumon is a big part of my life, so even if I have a lot of schoolwork, I always find time for my Kumon work. I know it’s worth all of the hard work and staying ahead in school. I love learning new math concepts – it’s very exciting for me! There are times when it could be challenging, but I have a lot of support from my Kumon Instructor and my family.

Lastly, who’s your biggest inspiration and why?

My biggest inspiration is Greta Thunberg, because at a young age she has made such a big impact in the world. She has inspired so many young people like me to really look at climate change and the effects it’s having on the earth.
