Student Passionate About Robotics Aims for Career in S.T.E.M.

Anvita, 13-years-old, Math Level K

Anvita is an ambitious, hardworking, and forward-thinking student that enjoys robotics, swimming, and playing the guitar. Since she enrolled in the Kumon Math Program seven years ago, Anvita has taken every step necessary to adapt to the Kumon Method and apply it to other aspects of her life. Her proactive mindset has allowed her to develop important skills such as time management, self-learning, and application of concepts.

“The most beneficial thing I have learned in Kumon is how to think beyond what we have learned. For example, if we learned one topic, then we are equipped to also use our learnings in another way or a different situation,” said Anvita.

With Anvita’s analytical mind, she excels at tracking her own progress as she’s on her way to reaching goals.

Anivta’s strengths have led to many many achievements including receiving awards in the FIRST Lego League Robotics Challenge (FLL). The FLL seeks bright young students to research a real-world problem, such as food safety or recycling, and then develop a solution to the problem. The solutions developed by teams include basic STEM applications, critical thinking, presentation skills, and creativity. With a deep passion for science and technology, Anvita aims to get into a career related to robotics.

Her accomplishments don’t stop there. Anvita was one of 155 students from Canada, USA and Mexico who was selected to attend the 2020 Virtual Kumon Student Conference. The students had the opportunity to be inspired and motivated by Kumon Ambassadors, former top Kumon Students who are now excelling in their careers and extracurricular pursuits.  They also met each other in virtual breakout rooms and engaged in a discussion about methods of teaching.

Anvita thanks Kumon for the many academic and learning skills that she has been able to transfer to her personal life. She is also extremely grateful for the support from her Kumon Instructor and family.

“My biggest inspiration is my family because they are all smart and know how to use their brain,” says Anvita.

What do you enjoy most about Kumon?

I like the way Kumon builds the foundation and prepares students for self-learning, that way we can easily overcome any challenge that comes our way.

How has Kumon helped you academically?

It has made math in school much easier. I am able to take more advanced courses with ease.

How has Kumon helped you outside of the classroom?

Kumon has helped me outside the classroom by giving me the confidence and patience I need for extra-curricular activities.

If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be?

The one word I would use to describe Kumon is self-learning. 

What advice would you give to kids just starting Kumon?

Persevere even though it can get hard. You might feel like quitting at times, but when you excel it makes it worth it.

How do you continue to stay motivated in Kumon even when work becomes challenging?

For me when things are easier, they are more boring. When the work gets challenging, it makes me more motivated to focus and get it right.
