Inspired by her Family, Kumon Student Aims to Create a Lasting Legacy

Georgia, 12 years old, Math Level K, Reading Level GII

Not many people know or think about the legacy they want to create. Georgia is not your average 12-year-old. Her goal has always been to make an impact in the lives of others and be remembered for her kindness.

“I am most proud of being a good person and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I want to leave a legacy of how kind I was to others. That would be my greatest accomplishment,” says Georgia.

Inspired by her family, Georgia is fueled by their accomplishments, history, and hard work. She is honored to have met her great grandfather who was a farmer during the Great Depression and worked tirelessly to provide for his family. She is extremely humbled and encouraged by her family, and their experiences. 

“They paved the way for me to get where I am today. I am forever grateful for that,” says Georgia.

In honor of her ancestor’s bravery, Georgia has dedicated efforts towards learning and developing a future for herself. She feels confident in where her knowledge can take her, and is considering becoming either a neurosurgeon, an astronaut, or even teacher one day.

For most of her life, Georgia was an average student. After enrolling in Kumon three years ago, she immediately saw an improvement in her grades. She even surpassed grade level and has gained an academic advantage over her classmates.

“My school average went from a 72% to a 98%,” says Georgia. “Kumon gave me that extra push; the push that will be needed to get me into medical school or a space program.”

Kumon plays a big role in Georgia’s determined mindset and work ethic. Whether she is at school, participating in karate, or helping customers at her job, she is always ready to serve and help others.

Georgia’s work ethic has helped her reach many achievements including being selected as one of 155 students from Canada, USA and Mexico to attend the 2020 Virtual Kumon Student Conference.

What do you enjoy most about Kumon?

There is a lot I enjoy about Kumon. What I love most is how the learning never ends. I do not think there is a day that goes by where I have not learned something while doing my Kumon Worksheets, which to me is the best part. As my grandma always says, “If you didn’t learn something today, it was a wasted day.”

How has Kumon helped you outside of the classroom?

Kumon has not only helped me in the classroom but has also helped me with other pursuits that are just as important as math or reading. For example, Kumon has helped me develop grit and perseverance. Not only does Kumon help you develop a good work ethic, but it also helps you understand how to learn. From music class to karate, I am always motivated to learn new songs, katas, and then perform them to the fullest.

What advice would you give to kids just starting Kumon?

If you are considering joining Kumon, do it! Kumon is one of the most rewarding accomplishments in my life. Kumon requires hard work but when you are all done you are grateful for all the work you put in. “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.”

How do you continue to stay motivated in Kumon even when work becomes challenging?

To be honest, Kumon takes a lot of work. What motivates me is the success stories I hear from other people who have completed the program. I know that this program will benefit me in the long run. I am looking forward to seeing what my life will look like in 10 years, and the anticipation and excitement is what keeps me going.
