Excellence is hard to achieve at a young age, but Soorajnath, a seventh – grader from Edmond, Oklahoma makes it look easy. His accomplishments include helping his academic team win the state championship – with Soorajnath achieving the highest score in the tournament, and taking home third place in the Oklahoma State Spelling Bee.
“Sometimes it can be very hard work, but the confidence I gain from Kumon applies in other areas of my life,” said Soorajnath. “I don’t get jitters before tests or tournaments or piano performances.”
Soorajnath completed the Kumon Reading Program in 2007 at only eight years old and recently completed the Kumon Math Program at age 10. Soorajnath developed a love for new challenges and learning at Kumon. Even though he’s completed both programs, now he is working on Level X math for fun. Level X is an extra special level for completers who are passionate about math.
“Soorajnath has gained the focus and confidence to take on new challenges from the Kumon Program,” said his father Balasubramaniyan. “We look forward to seeing where the future takes him.”
When he is not working on his Kumon worksheets, Soorajnath enjoys playing the piano, and admires classic composers, such as Beethoven and Mozart. He explains that the skills instilled through the Kumon Program, like confidence, motivation to succeed and the drive to learn independently will help him succeed throughout his academic career and life.
“Soorajnath is a very inspiring student, and I enjoy learning from him,” said RussAnn Anderson, the Instructor at Kumon of Edmond. “He sets goals and overcomes challenges and enjoys doing it. It’s inspiring to witness a student excel and continue to nurture his love of learning.”
