Even more concerning? It\u2019s affecting all girls, and even top achievers still feel more math anxiety than their male peers.<\/p>\n<p>You must be wondering why? Scientists aren\u2019t sure, but signs are pointing towards social conditioning. Parents appear to play a huge role, with the study finding that girls weren\u2019t as likely as boys to say that their parents taught them the value of math.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 300px; height: 450px;\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/empower-children-improve-math-skills-pinterest.jpeg\" alt=\"math tips - the perception of math: venus vs mars\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rtecenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Math Anxiety is Nothing New<\/h2>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/math-axiety-not-new.jpeg\" alt=\"math anxiety has been around for a while\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, these findings aren\u2019t totally new \u2013 a <a href=\"http:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/psycinfo\/2007-06470-007\" aria-label=\"2007 study\">2007 study<\/a> also found that stereotypes could impact academic performance. They tested \u201cstereotype threat\u201d in a classroom setting, with two sets of female students each receiving the same math education, but with one set being taught by an instructor that would mention the stereotype that women aren\u2019t as good at math as men. The result? The class which was exposed to stereotypes performed noticeably worse on math tests than the controlled class.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rtecenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Empower Children to Improve Math Skills<\/h2>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/empower-children-improve-math-skills.jpeg\" alt=\"empower children to improve their math skills\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many of the families we work with do a great job at empowering children to improve math skills.
