At first glance, he may appear to be just a\u00a0regular 8-year-old boy. There\u2019s one key difference though &#8211; Darshil has better math skills than most full-grown adults.<\/p>\n<p>He speaks as if his voice is racing to catch up with his brain. There\u2019s a sense of urgency there, like he\u2019s trying to beat time itself \u2013 and why not? He\u2019s got some big goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m working really hard thinking about space. First I wanted to be an astronaut. Then a scientist, and finally I realized I could combine them and become\u2026 an astronomer!\u201d As he delivers his life\u2019s ambition, his voice cracks and he lets go a laugh. He doesn\u2019t take himself too seriously.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 300px; height: 449px;\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/the-power-of-positivity-pinterest.jpeg\" alt=\"success story - the power of positivity\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Astronomy is a pretty distant target for someone so young, but this little guy has already accomplished quite a bit. He\u2019s already working through advanced math problems that deal with factorization, square roots, fractions and algebra.<\/p>\n<p>Darshil has been recognized for his achievements too, having received\u00a09\u00a0medals and a\u00a0&#8220;G by 5&#8221; Gold Star award from Kumon.\u00a0He is currently studying far beyond his grade level in both math and reading. That\u2019s a great place to be for somebody with so much time ahead of them.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/darshil-and-awards1.jpeg\" alt=\"Darshil and His Awards\" \/><figcaption>Darshil and His Awards<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rtecenter\"><strong>Positivity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s no doubt that Darshil is talented. But despite his obvious gifts, the thing that really shines is his attitude. Everyone wants their <a href=\"\/resources\/subjects\/success-stories\/\" aria-label=\"here\" aria-label=\"kids to be successful\" aria-label=\"Kumon Success Stories\">kids to be successful<\/a>, but the formula for success can often be hard to lock down. Whatever that formula is in Darshil\u2019s case, we can be sure of the star ingredient: positivity.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what we asked him, Darshil\u2019s response was full of zeal. He took every opportunity to tell us how great everyone around him is. \u201cI\u2019m grateful for my parents, my teachers, my Kumon instructor \u2013 everybody in my life,\u201d the words float in the air as his parents smile and take them in. It\u2019s a kind of freshness we aren\u2019t used to these days.<\/p>\n<p>Darshil\u2019s ability to spin things positively rivals that of most PR professionals. When asked about the upcoming spring break, he said he was sad he wouldn\u2019t see his friends for a while, but happy his teachers could have a rest!<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/darshil-and-his-poster1.jpeg\" alt=\"Darshil's Poster\" \/><figcaption>Darshil&#8217;s Poster<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rtecenter\"><strong>The Supporting Cast<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A child can be born with gifts, but becoming so well-adjusted so early in life requires a strong supporting cast. One such cast member is Darshil\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/calgary-sunridge-horizon-ab\" aria-label=\"Kumon instructor\u00c2\u00a0Brian\">Kumon instructor\u00a0Brian<\/a>, a person who has been guiding Darshil in his studies for the past 4 years.<\/p>\n<p>Brian was quick to highlight Darshil\u2019s natural talent, but he also emphasized the importance of his positive outlook. \u201cHe never complains about doing corrections or when he didn&#8217;t pass a test. He just keeps trying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a Kumon instructor, Brian\u2019s goal is to help students reach their full potential. In pursuit of that, one constant that Brian preaches is diligence. \u201cDarshil is an independent learner, has good stamina in doing his homework and is very responsible. He is a blessing to have as a student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although we can be sure Brian has played a major role in shaping Darshil\u2019s character, he knows it\u2019s been a team effort. \u201cHis family is awesome, supporting him in any way they can &#8211; they are very cooperative with the centre in motivating Darshil further.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/darshil-the-young-pianist1.jpeg\" alt=\"Darshil's Posters\" \/><figcaption>Darshil the Pianist<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rtecenter\"><strong>All Work and No Play?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Variety is the spice of life \u2013 this may as well be Darshil\u2019s personal slogan! And he\u2019s been busy getting that variety in. Darshil is a Montessori program graduate and sports fanatic, as well as a music lover and performer. As a pianist, he has performed at the summer festival held at the University of Calgary. At under 10 years of age, Darshil has compiled quite a dossier.<\/p>\n<p>Darshil\u2019s achievements are many, but what really underscores his impact is raw positivity. After speaking with the adults around him, it\u2019s clear that Darshil\u2019s attitude has been shaped through them. His parents, instructors, and teachers all work together to create an environment that is overwhelmingly constructive. The result?
