Kumon Student, Calvin, has learned about the power of perseverance and is aware that it is an integral part of his success.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calvin is an 11-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/math-program\" aria-label=\"Kumon Math Student\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kumon Math Student<\/a> who has been enrolled in the program for five years. During his time in the program, he has been able to drastically improve his math and reading skills. This has helped him excel in school. Calvin said, \u201cWithout Kumon to help me build skills in math and reading, I wouldn&#8217;t be the student that I am today.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/practice-makes-possibilities\/\" aria-label=\"daily practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">daily practice<\/a>, Calvin has seen that perseverance has given him countless opportunities for growth. Calvin said:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Kumon has taught me to persevere because there are times when the assignments are hard, but I am determined to work through the challenging assignments. Kumon has taught me to work independently because I don&#8217;t get help from my parents on the Kumon assignments. I like that I can figure out how to do the work on my own, and I don\u2019t have to rely on others for help. I also think that Kumon teaches me other important life lessons because I can\u2019t always depend on someone else to get me to where I need to be. I feel that getting independent practice on my assignments is a great way to prepare me for times in life when I may have to work alone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, Calvin has achieved awards in a variety of areas thanks to his perseverance and hard work, such as:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>District runner up in the Scripps National Spelling Bee&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First place in the Elementary School Read-A-Thon in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 4<sup>th<\/sup> and 5<sup>th<\/sup> grade&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kumon G by 4 Award &#8211; learn about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/canadian_english\/what-awards-can-students-achieve-in-the-kumon-program\/\" aria-label=\"Kumon Awards\">Kumon Awards<\/a> \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achieved national standardized test scores in the 99<sup>th<\/sup> percentile<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distinguished Learner in all categories for the Georgia Milestones standardized test&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Member of a Gold Bracket Championship all-star baseball team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-2-214x300-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13605\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To stay motivated, he remembers what he will be able to achieve if he continues to practice his skills. This has even been seen in his accomplishments in baseball which is one of his favorite activities. In 2021, he was a part of a travel baseball team and an all-star baseball team that both placed in the Gold Bracket either as championship winners or runner-ups. One of his proudest accomplishments in baseball is hitting his first ever home run, which of course will be the first of many!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calvin knows that by learning and practicing his skills, he will be able to do anything that he sets his mind to achieve. He continues to challenge himself with Kumon work especially because he has gained the skills to excel in school and given him the ability to work independently to learn something new.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, he knows that by persevering through challenging concepts and developing more knowledge, he is \u201cbuilding a dedication to education\u201d which allows him to be the smartest he can be. This dedication to education and learning new skills opens up the door for opportunities for him to continue excelling. Calvin said, \u201cIf I continue to work hard, I can do great things in the world and for my community.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a young age, Calvin has been actively involved in helping his community. He\u2019s been a part of a variety of service projects which have consisted of park clean-ups, volunteering at the local food pantry, and working with the Sandwiches for the Homeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learn more about Calvin and his aspirations:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><strong>What are some activities you enjoy doing outside of school and Kumon?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some activities that I enjoy doing after Kumon are reading, playing baseball, playing video games, watching TV, playing games with my family, and playing with my friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><strong>What do you want to be when you grow up?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/FV3A4001-300x214-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13606\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I grow up, I want to be a successful entrepreneur. Also, if the opportunity comes to me, I would like to be a Major League Baseball Player.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><strong>Who is your biggest inspiration and why?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My biggest inspiration is my dad. My dad inspires me to work hard and be successful in the future. One thing that motivates me to do Kumon is because I know that my dad\u2019s math skills helped him to obtain a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering.
