When most children are just beginning preschool, Rideyveer was already racing ahead. By the age of four, he had enrolled in Kumon\u2019s Early Learner Program, and within months, he was mastering skills beyond his grade level. Today, he is working three years ahead in both math and reading, proudly earning Platinum status and ranking among the top Kumon students in Canada \u2013 all while balancing sports, music, and the joys of childhood. His story is an inspiring example of how Kumon can help spark confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning from the very start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From First Steps to First Breakthrough<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rideyveer\u2019s Kumon Instructor Ravi Mathur has worked with early learners for nearly eight years and has seen firsthand the impact of starting young. \u201cKumon brings out the best in a student when they start early,\u201d he says. \u201cYou can really nurture their love for learning from the beginning.\u201d He adds that readiness matters: a child should be able to sit for short periods, follow simple directions, and be fully engaged in brief activities. With those foundations in place, the program\u2019s step-by-step progression can work its magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning, Ravi and Rideyveer\u2019s parents focused on essential learning skills, including sitting, listening, pencil grip, and paying careful attention to working on one lesson at a time. With Ravi\u2019s support, Rideyveer\u2019s family established a predictable routine\u2014most days, 15 to 20 minutes around 5:00 p.m.\u2014and kept it fun with small celebrations, plenty of encouragement, and the freedom to learn more when Rideyveer felt motivated. He even happily powered through two or three sets of worksheets some days simply because he was enjoying himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within eight months, he demonstrated mastery of the core math concepts appropriate for his age and had begun reading\u2014two early milestones that boosted his confidence. Regular check-ins between Instructor and parents helped keep everything on track. \u201cKumon is a three-way partnership\u2014student, Instructor, and parents,\u201d Ravi explains. \u201cThat consistent communication is what brings out the best in a child.\u201d Rideyveer also enjoyed the opportunity to learn alongside the \u201cbig kids,\u201d finding additional motivation and inspiration from learning new skills together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speed, Surety, and Self-Learning<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Today, Rideyveer works three years ahead of his school grade in both math and reading, while remaining a cheerful and curious kid. His parents have intentionally emphasized accuracy over speed, especially when new concepts are introduced. The result is a confident self-learner: when Ravi presents a new challenge, he encourages Rideyveer to \u201ctreat it like a puzzle.\u201d With examples to study and a clear progression of steps, Rideyveer enthusiastically works to learn as much as he can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognition fuels his drive, too. Certificates, medals, and his Platinum status have become tangible markers of progress\u2014and motivation to keep going. He even checks his rank among peers and sets personal goals to maintain his standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translating Growth Beyond the Center<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The skills Rideyveer has built at Kumon\u2014focus, perseverance, and independence\u2014spill naturally into school. Teachers quickly recognized his academic readiness, and the day-to-day curriculum now feels manageable, even easy, because he\u2019s already practiced (and mastered) many of the underlying skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as important, the early wins in Kumon have helped Rideyveer grow socially and emotionally. He has grown into an accomplished and well-rounded individual, enjoying a fun-filled life. He plays soccer and swims, and he\u2019s all-in on cricket through a local club where he\u2019s on track to join an under-10 league. Rideyveer also studies traditional Indian instruments (harmonium and tabla) and enjoys performing in school assemblies. At home, he\u2019s the kind of determined kid who decides to \u201cfigure it out,\u201d whether that means learning a new rhythm or how to ride a bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
