She\u2019s also studying above grade level in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/reading-program\" aria-label=\"Kumon Reading Program\">Kumon Reading Program<\/a>, and can say she has already analyzed pieces of literature, such as Harper Lee\u2019s <em>To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em> before even entering middle school.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6591 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_building-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Suhani standing at an observation deck looking over Calgary\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_building-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_building-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_building.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Having been enrolled in Kumon for five years, Suhani is experiencing the true benefits of the Kumon Method, especially self-learning.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSo far, I can say that becoming a self-learner has been one of the most beneficial takeaways,\u201d said Suhani. \u201cI sometimes notice my peers in school struggling with certain concepts, while I am able to figure out challenging problems on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Gaining her independence has also carried over into improving her focus and discipline, which she applies in her extracurricular activities. Her discipline and focus will help her achieve her future aspiration of becoming a surgeon one day.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Suhani is an accomplished pianist and is proud to say that she has passed the <a href=\"https:\/\/gb.abrsm.org\/en\/our-exams\/piano-exams\/\" aria-label=\"Yamaha ABRSM Grade 1 Exam\">Yamaha ABRSM Grade 1 Exam<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/gb.abrsm.org\/en\/about-us\/\" aria-label=\"ABRSM\">ABRSM<\/a> is the UK\u2019s largest music education body, specializing in graded exams for musicians around the world. Elements of the challenging exam include highly accurate playing of three pieces, scales and broken chords, sight-reading, and aural tests.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-6592\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_2-e1551296552179-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Suhani stands in front of a cowboy statue\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_2-e1551296552179-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Suhani_2-e1551296552179-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With a love for competition, Suhani participated and won a robotics competition in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstlegoleague.org\/challenge\" aria-label=\"FIRST Lego League Robotics Challenge\">FIRST Lego League Robotics Challenge<\/a> (FLL) with her team. The FLL seeks bright young students to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and develop a solution. The solutions developed by teams include basic STEM applications, critical thinking, presentation skills, and creativity.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Suhani\u2019s many accomplishments were recognized, as she was one of 55 students selected to attend the 2018 Kumon Student Conference in Calgary, Canada. We had the opportunity to speak to Suhani about her Kumon journey.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>How has Kumon helped you academically?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Academically, Kumon has helped me improve my math and reading skills in so many ways. Not only am I receiving straight A\u2019s, I am ahead of all my peers. Right now, we are learning fractions in schools, and luckily for me it\u2019s a piece of cake!<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 12px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>What do you enjoy most about Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-6590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/KSC-3394-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Suhani sits with a group of students at the Student Conference\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/KSC-3394-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/KSC-3394-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I really enjoy how much my Instructor encourages me in the center. I always look forward to our center\u2019s student awards ceremony, which keeps me motivated throughout the year.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 12px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>How has Kumon helped you outside of the classroom?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Outside of the classroom, Kumon has really helped me improve my time management. With the right plans, you can get more work done than expected. I have also learned to focus more, which helps me with my swim meets and piano recitals.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 12px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Opportunity.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 12px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>What did it mean to you attending the Student Conference? <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Attending the Student Conference was a great opportunity to learn from other Kumon Students who are just like me. I had the opportunity to share my knowledge, and gain insight from others. I really enjoyed making friends from all over Canada, Mexico, and the United States.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 12px;\"><\/div>\n<h4><strong>What advice do you have for other Kumon Students?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When you first enroll in Kumon, you start out swimming upstream, and it will be challenging at times. When it becomes challenging, don\u2019t give up. The currents will begin to ease.
