By the time he was four years old, he began teaching himself various subjects independently like astronomy, anatomy, geography, and chemistry. Jose didn\u2019t stop there. He learned how to fluently speak four languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Russian \u2013 all by teaching himself.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"221\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-8105\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-scientist-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-scientist-221x300.jpg 221w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-scientist.jpg 706w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Jose was such an independent learner, his mother knew that enrolling him in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/math-program\" aria-label=\"Kumon Math Program\">Kumon Math Program<\/a> would be the perfect fit for his learning patterns. When he enrolled at six years old, Jose\u2019s passion for math was further ignited and he was inspired to share his learnings with the rest of the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jose went ahead and created a YouTube Channel called, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC8JOwvoGCNTn5hgRuUEhS1A\" aria-label=\"Making Math Easy\">Making Math Easy<\/a>\u201d and his very own Facebook page, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/JoseTheMathematician\/posts\/?ref=page_internal\" aria-label=\"Jose the Mathematician\">Jose the Mathematician<\/a>.\u201d His videos not only showcase his brilliance, but his enthusiasm for topics such as indefinite integrals, solar system formation, trigonometry and so much more!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Jose was seven years old, the University of Victoria took interest in his passion for astronomy. \u00a0They were amazed by the wealth of knowledge he had for someone his age! Professors invited Jose to sit in and audit several astronomy courses. In 2019, Dr. Karun Tanjavur, professor at the University of Victoria, even invited Jose to do a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=1528117187329428\" aria-label=\"talk\">talk<\/a> on astronomy at the <a href=\"https:\/\/astro-canada.ca\/l_observatoire_federal_d_astrophysique-the_dominion_astrophysical_observatory-eng\" aria-label=\"Dominion Astrophysical Observatory\">Dominion Astrophysical Observatory<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" class=\"wp-image-8104\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-professor-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-professor-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-professor-768x615.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-professor.jpg 878w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI am most proud of completing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/math-program\" aria-label=\"Kumon Math Program\">Kumon Math Program<\/a> in about four years. I am also proud of having the opportunity to audit courses at the University of Victoria,\u201d said Jose.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith my knowledge of math and other topics I have gained because of Kumon, I\u2019ve been able to follow along with university lectures and assignments pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jose has a bright future ahead of him and we can\u2019t wait to see what else he will accomplish. When we asked about his future plans, he enthusiastically shared his list of goals and dreams with us.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I grow up, I want to be a mathematician, scientist, astronomer, and a professor as the University of Victoria,\u201d said Jose. \u201cAnother goal I would like to accomplish is to write papers on science, astronomy, and topology.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-8103\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-kumon-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-kumon-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/jose-kumon.jpg 597w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among his impressive accomplishments, Jose was one of 56 students selected for Kumon\u2019s 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Annual Student Conference in Chicago, Illinois.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was amazed, really happy and surprised when I found out I was selected,\u201d said Jose. \u201cI was so inspired hearing from other Kumon Students at the Student Conference. I came back full of energy to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/math-program\" aria-label=\"Kumon Math Program\">Kumon Math Program<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jose and the rest of the attendees had the opportunity to learn from each other through educational activities designed to foster team building, group discussion, critical thinking and creativity. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 9px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jose shares how Kumon shaped his academic career and reveals who his inspiration is.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How has Kumon helped you academically?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kumon has helped me academically as I\u2019ve learned other necessary skills needed to succeed, like study habits. I have also been able to focus on other subjects that interest me, like astronomy, anatomy, geography, and chemistry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What do you enjoy most about Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I enjoy most is being able to learn at my own pace and find solutions independently. Finding things out on my own makes me feel like, \u201cEureka! I found what happened!\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the most beneficial thing you\u2019ve learned in Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most beneficial thing I\u2019ve learned in Kumon is that you don\u2019t give up on things that are difficult if you want to achieve them.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be? <\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magnificent.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"height: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What advice would you give to kids just starting Kumon? <\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things get easier with practice. She has followed me along the way.
