Joseph, 13-years-old<\/em>, Math Level L & Reading Program Completer<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph\u2019s competitive edge and sharp math skills have taken\nhim to the next level, both in and out of the classroom. As an avid competitor for\nhis middle school, Joseph has consistently been leading his team in math\ncompetitions such as the Mathematical\nAssociation of America\u2019s AMC 8<\/a>, Noetic Learning Math\nContest<\/a>, and Math Counts<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From an early age, he has learned that success doesn\u2019t come\nwithout hard work. While Joseph is an active member on his school\u2019s swim team\nand is an accomplished pianist, he remains focused on his schoolwork first. Ever\nsince Joseph\u2019s parents enrolled him in Kumon at the early age of three years\nold, he quickly saw the benefits in his increased focus and determination.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIn Kumon, I\u2019ve learned that good work habits are key to becoming successful in life. In my case, there\u2019s no playing until I finish my work, and I remind myself to remain focused on whatever I am working on,\u201d said Joseph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Joseph is able to complete his homework with ease, he carves\nout time to do other activities that improve and develop him in all aspects of\nlife. This extra time lets \n \n \nhim focus on learning new music and playing the piano, which are two\nactivities he enjoys.<\/p>\n\n\n

It\u2019s no surprise that with Joseph\u2019s focus and always having\nhis \u201ceye on the prize\u201d mentality, that he successfully completed the Kumon Reading Program<\/a> in eight\nyears. Now, he\u2019s inspired and close to completing the Kumon Math Program<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we asked Joseph about what he wishes to become when\nhe\u2019s older, he shared with us the true reason on why he sees a future as a\nneurosurgeon \u2013 to help his younger sister. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would like to be a successful neurosurgeon one day,\u201d said\nJoseph. \u201cOne of the reasons why I want to become a neurosurgeon is because my\nyounger sister was born with Tetrasomy 18P, a genetic condition related to low\nmuscle tone which causes her to have developmental delays. I want to help her\nand many others who suffer from these types of conditions when I grow up.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among his impressive accomplishments, Joseph was one of 56\nstudents selected for Kumon\u2019s 3rd<\/sup> Annual Student Conference in\nChicago, Illinois. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was happy, excited, and thankful to be one of the\nstudents selected to attend the Student Conference,\u201d said Joseph. \u201cI understand\nthat there were so many bright and talented student who had also submitted\ntheir application, so to be selected among all of these kids is a big\nachievement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph and the rest of the attendees had the\nopportunity to learn from each other through educational activities designed to\nfoster team building, group discussion, critical thinking, and creativity.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph shares with us who his inspiration is and what he\nenjoys most about Kumon.<\/p>\n\n\n

Who\u2019s your biggest inspiration and why?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

My biggest inspiration is Elon Musk, because he had a lot of\ngreat ideas and turned them all into reality. I admire that he has big dreams\nand ambitions. They are what drive him to continue to work harder even though\nhe is already successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has Kumon helped\nyou academically?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Kumon has helped me get excellent grades in school and gain the\ngood work habits that help me excel in all of my subjects outside of math and\nreading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What achievements are\nyou most proud of?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When I completed the Kumon Reading Program<\/a> two\nyears ago, I felt that I received that honor not just for myself, but for my\nfamily, Instructors, and my Kumon Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you enjoy\nmost about Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Becoming an independent learner at a very young age is what\nI enjoy most about Kumon. I\u2019ve also became responsible and developed good work\nhabits through Kumon.<\/p>\n\n\n

What advice would you\ngive to kids just starting Kumon? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I would encourage kids to stick with Kumon and give it their full effort, just as I did. If students give it their all, they will reap the benefits in no time, and it will help them school. I have nothing but gratitude for my parents for enrolling me in Kumon. I now have a strong foundation in both math and reading, and learning habits that help me outside of school as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was your\nexperience like at the Student Conference, and what was your favorite part?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I felt so inspired listening to the speakers at the Student\nConference. They were all Kumon Program completers themselves and are now very\nsuccessful in their careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you could sum up\nyour Kumon experience in one word, what would it be? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
