Once children begin to read on their\nown, it can seem easy to stop reading or discussing books with them. However, it\u2019s\nimportant to continue to talk about and recommend books as they get older. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some children tend to lose interest\nin reading during the middle school years because reading requirements increase\nduring this time. The idea of reading for pleasure is often lost among the\nvarious schoolwork assignments. Being able to indulge in independent,\nself-selected reading is an invaluable activity for children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are a few ways to encourage your child to read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Liked the movie? Read the book.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your children really liked a movie or television show that was based on a book, encourage them to read it. Afterwards, discuss how the book was different from the movie and if the actors fit the characters. There are several books on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.email-kumon.com\/RRL\" aria-label=\"Kumon Recommended Reading List\">Kumon Recommended Reading List<\/a> (RRL) that were also turned into movies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>A Wrinkle in Time<\/em><\/strong> by Madeleine L\u2019Engle, <em>Level G<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> <strong><em>The Hobbit<\/em><\/strong> by J.R.R. Sobol<strong><em>, <\/em><\/strong><em>Level E<\/em>(Part of the Encyclopedia Brown series) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3.
