From incorporating\nmath<\/a> into your early learner\u2019s daily routine, to sparking a love for reading<\/a>,\nand taking an adventure\nfrom home<\/a>, there are so many learning opportunities for your little one to\ntake advantage of this summer. As your child learns and develops new skills, it\nwill be important to motivate them as they are working towards their goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Praise is a great way to motivate and empower students, and\nmeaningful feedback can play an important role in the development of children.\nHere are five ways you can empower your children through praise. <\/p>\n\n\n

1. Give Authentic Praise <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Praise that comes from the heart can turn a child\u2019s learning attitude around or give them the boost they need. Praise your children not only for what they accomplish, but also for what they try to accomplish. Let them know that you believe in them and reflect on any new skills they gain over the summer, like independence, time management, and perseverance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Use an Encouraging and Respectful Tone<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Aim to speak in a tone appropriate to the\nsituation. Consider the words used and the atmosphere it creates. Children will\nrespond accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Praise Specific Achievements <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Praise is a great way to motivate and empower students. In addition, meaningful feedback can also play an important role in the development of children. Specific praise helps nurture the confidence we see in self-learners and can help identify a child\u2019s capabilities and give them something to build upon. If we want to develop specific skills in our students, even our praise should have a purpose and be meaningful like, \u201cYou read that passage clearly, and remembered to pause at the commas. Great job!\u201d By praising achievements, we help identify students\u2019 capabilities and give them something to build upon. When used effectively, praise can boost children\u2019s self-esteem<\/a>, confidence, and perseverance<\/a> through any challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n

4. Support and Motivate<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Praise children who can discover and learn from their mistakes<\/a>. As Kumon Students develop their self-learning skills, they will be able to identify their mistakes and learn from them. Motivate your child by showing them a job well done doesn\u2019t necessarily mean earning 100% on the first try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Know When to Listen <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Know when to listen and observe, then use\nthose observations to help individualize praise so it is meaningful for your\nchild. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Praise is an amazing thing. When used effectively, it can\nboost children\u2019s self-esteem, raise their confidence, and help them through any\nchallenge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
