Sarah, 11-years-old<\/em>, Math Level I & Reading Level HII<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Some of Sarah\u2019s earliest childhood memories include tagging along with her father on the golf course. Her father Robert was a board member on the Langston Junior Boys and Girls Golf Club<\/a> in Washington, DC, so it\u2019s no wonder Sarah fell in love with the sport from the very moment she picked up her first set of clubs when she was just three years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah quickly rose up the ranks in the world of golf. Just\nlast year, she competed in the 2019 U.S.\nKids World Golf Championship, finishing the summer with her best score of 83\non 18 holes from 4,400 yards. She also competed in the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Kids\nWorld Golf Championship in Pinehurst, NC, and qualified to compete in 2020 as\nwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah\u2019s competitive spirit and talent for the sport didn\u2019t\ncome without years of practice and determination. To perfect her golf swing,\nshe has learned the importance of focusing and following through\u2014just as she\nmust focus and follow through on her goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Sarah\nis a homeschool student, she feels that Kumon offers her the flexibility to\ncomplete her schoolwork and still have time for all of her favorite activities.\nKumon is the perfect supplement for homeschool\nstudents<\/a> like\nSarah. Kumon Students study at their own pace, which means students often end\nup studying beyond their own grade level, leaving more time to focus on their\nareas of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n

\n \n \n\u201cOn the golf course, Kumon has helped me with focus. There is a lot\nof time between shots. I love walking and talking with my friends, but when it\nis my turn to hit the ball, I have to shut everything down and focus on my golf\nshot,\u201d said Sarah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe biggest lesson I have learned in golf is to always\nfollow through when I take my swing. If you don’t follow through, you are\nlikely to fall short of the target which could mean the difference between sole\nfirst place or having to have a playoff for first place.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah’s accomplishments on the course don’t stop there. She\nadvanced to the third round of the 2017 and 2019 PGA Drive, Chip and Putt<\/a>\ncompetition\u2013 playing among some of the most talented junior golfers\nin the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Off the course, Sarah is also breaking records in playing\nchess. She\u2019s the 2020 Washington, DC K-5 Chess Champion, and the 2019 Mid\nAtlantic Regional Girls Chess Champion. Sarah even finds time to play the harp\nand is a Black Belt in Martial Arts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI’m a homeschool student, and I travel a lot for golf,\nchess, and music,\u201d said Sarah. \u201cKumon is flexible and allows me to complete my\nschoolwork while also participating in my favorite activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past summer, Sarah was one of 155 students from Canada,\nUSA and Mexico who attended the Virtual Kumon Student Conference. The students\nhad the opportunity to be inspired and motivated by Kumon Ambassadors, former\ntop Kumon Students who are now excelling in their careers and extracurricular\npursuits.  They also met each other in\nvirtual breakout rooms and engaged in a discussion about methods of teaching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah shares with us her plans for the future and the most\nimportant lesson she has learned on her Kumon journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you want to\nbe when you grow up?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I would like to be a Supreme Court Judge, that way I can\ncreate laws which are fair to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n

How has Kumon helped\nyou outside of the classroom?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I use the ability to focus and my time management skills\nwhile competing in chess tournaments and musical performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the most beneficial lesson you\u2019ve learned in Kumon thus far?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Kumon has taught me that daily practice makes learning\neasier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you enjoy\nmost about Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In the Kumon Reading Program<\/a>, I enjoy the stories and sometimes I purchase the book. In the Kumon Math Program<\/a>, I enjoy advancing to new levels and learning complex operations. Most of all, I enjoy achieving the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n

Who is your biggest inspiration?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

My biggest inspiration is Misty Copeland. She experienced\npoverty and hardship, yet she overcame those obstacles and became a world-famous\nballerina!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has Kumon helped you academically? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Kumon Math\nProgram<\/a> has taught me how to quickly process information. The stories in\nthe Kumon Reading Program<\/a>\nhave taught me a lot about culture, religion, and world history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you continue\nto stay motivated in Kumon even when work becomes challenging?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

To stay motivated, I think about becoming a dual program\ncompleter by the time I am 13 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you could sum up\nyour Kumon experience in one word, what would it be?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
