Nurayda, 13-years-old<\/em>, Math Level N<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

13-year-old Nurayda is fiercely competitive. This holds true\nwhen she\u2019s on the basketball court, competing in chess tournaments, and even\nwhen she\u2019s keeping up in her advanced classes. With her eyes always on the\nprize, Nurayda gives it her all no matter what she\u2019s doing, and her\naccomplishments show it. When she was just nine years old, she placed sixth at\nthe United States National Chess Tournament<\/a>\nin Nashville, Tennessee. Nurayda also came in second place in the Crime Busters\ndivision at the Science Olympiad States Tournament at Michigan State\nUniversity.<\/p>\n\n\n

When Nurayda enrolled in the Kumon Math Program<\/a> ten years ago,\nshe quickly gained intangible\nskills<\/a>, such as a boost in her confidence,\nindependence, and improved focus. It\u2019s those very skills that set Nurayda apart\nfrom her peers and give her the confidence needed to try anything and focus on\nalways making improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKumon has of course helped me tremendously in math and reading. Not only has it allowed me to always be advanced in school, but it has given me the chance to now help my peers who are struggling,\u201d said Nurayda. \u201cWithout Kumon, I would not have the motivation to aim for perfection and participate in anything I am interested in. Kumon has also made me a very competitive girl and has inspired me to always challenge myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Nurayda finds every opportunity to give back to her community and help others. In 2019, she participated in her middle school\u2019s annual food drive<\/a> and was proud to be one of the biggest food donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have participated in many community service and volunteer\nprojects like food drives, clothing drives, and more,\u201d said Nurayda. \u201cThe most\nmeaningful project I have completed was my school\u2019s annual food drive last\nyear. I was the biggest food donor and was extremely involved with the project.\nI also motivated other kids to donate generously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past summer, Nurayda was one of 155 students from\nCanada, USA and Mexico who attended the Virtual Kumon Student Conference. The\nstudents had the opportunity to be inspired and motivated by Kumon Ambassadors,\nformer top Kumon Students who are now excelling in their careers and extracurricular\npursuits.  They also met each other in\nvirtual breakout rooms and engaged in a discussion about methods of teaching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy experience at the Student Conference was very\ninspirational,\u201d said Nurayda. \u201cI felt honored to be among other extremely\ntalented kids. My favorite part was the Zoom breakout rooms, where I got to\nspeak to other kids participating in the conference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nurayda shares with us her plans for the future and her\nadvice for other Kumon Students.<\/p>\n\n\n

What advice would you give to kids just starting Kumon?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The advice I would give to kids just starting Kumon would be\nto persevere through every challenge, because Kumon truly pays off in the long\nrun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you think of\nKumon\u2019s method of thinking for oneself?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I like Kumon\u2019s method of thinking for oneself because it\nproves the saying, \u201cpractice makes perfect.\u201d There have been several times\nwhere I just didn\u2019t understand a concept and wanted to give up. But with the\nhelp of my Kumon Instructor, I am able to overcome these challenges and move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you want to be when you grow up?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When I grow up, I want to be a doctor and make the world a\nbetter place by helping others.<\/p>\n\n\n

Who is your biggest inspiration?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

My biggest inspiration is Martin Luther King Jr. I grew up\nlearning about him and his story has made me a huge supporter of equality. The\nimpact he left on the world will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the most beneficial thing you\u2019ve learned in Kumon\nthus far?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The most beneficial thing I\u2019ve learned in Kumon is to never\ngive up. I know that mistakes are a part of life and everyone makes them.\nRecovering from the mistakes is important and has made me who I am today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you could sum up\nyour Kumon experience in one word, what would it be?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any other information\nyou\u2019d like to share about your Kumon journey?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Many people things that Kumon only helps you in math and\nreading as it says in the name, but I think it teaches you so much more than\nthat. At a young age, Kumon teaches you social skills and as you get older it\nprepares you for a successful future. My Kumon experience has been filled with\nups and downs. With the encouragement from my Kumon Instructor and parents, I\nlearned how to remain resilient. All I can say is to keep finishing those\nworksheets \u2013 wherever you are and whatever you are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
