You may notice your child daydreaming out the window during homework time wishing they can play outside, or you can see they are losing steam at the end of the day. It\u2019s so important for your child to stay focused and end the year just as strong as they did in the beginning of the year. Here are five easy ways to finish the school year strong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Encourage Praise and Stay Positive<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/at-home-learning-with-praise\/\" aria-label=\"Praise\">Praise<\/a> is a great way to motivate and empower students, and meaningful feedback can also play an important role in the development of children. Acknowledge your child\u2019s accomplishments no matter how big or small. By praising achievements, we help identify students\u2019 capabilities and give them something to build upon. When used effectively, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/building-confidence-and-self-esteem\/\" aria-label=\"goals\" aria-label=\"praise can boost children\u00e2\u0080\u0099s self-esteem\">praise can boost children\u2019s self-esteem<\/a>, confidence, and perseverance through any challenge. This boost in self-esteem and confidence can fuel them to really give it their all towards the end of the school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay positive! Children are always listening and will emulate your attitude. If they overhear you expressing your desire for the school year to end, they will echo your sentiments. Try positive statements like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou\u2019ve accomplished so much this year in school! Keep up the great work.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou\u2019re doing a great job on reading more advanced passages. Let\u2019s pick out even more books for you to read.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou almost got it! Keep going!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cLook how far you\u2019ve come!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Set Goals<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Setting goals doesn\u2019t have to only take place at the beginning of the school year! As a parent, it\u2019s important to encourage your children to always try their best and to strive for more. One of the ways you can help to foster this motivation is through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/motivate-your-child-through-goal-setting\/\" aria-label=\"goal setting\">goal setting<\/a>. Tracking those goals can be just as important for your child because it will teach them skills like planning, time management, and accountability. By teaching children to take small steps towards their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/building-confidence-and-self-esteem\/\" aria-label=\"goals\" aria-label=\"praise can boost children\u00e2\u0080\u0099s self-esteem\">goals<\/a>, it ultimately builds their confidence and gives them a sense of accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sit down with your child to complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/My-2021-Goal-Sheet.pdf\" aria-label=\"goal sheet\">goal sheet<\/a> to keep them motivated during these last few months of school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Stick to a Routine<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you established a homework and sleep routine at the beginning of the school year, it\u2019s still important to stick to that schedule. This will reinforce time management and keep your child on task so that you can ensure all assignments are being completed, and also so that you can know that they are well rested to take on the next day at school. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleepfoundation.org\/articles\/plan-ahead-start-back-school-bedtime-routines-now\" aria-label=\"Sleep Foundation\">Sleep Foundation<\/a>, children who don\u2019t get enough sleep can have a difficult time learning. The recommendation is that kids between ages 6 through 13 get nine to 11 hours of sleep each night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Take Breaks<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Get outside and play! While it\u2019s important to get schoolwork done, taking brain breaks is actually healthy for your child! Short breaks can help increase productivity and attention once they get back to work. A great way to spend a brain break is doing a fun and physical activity to increase blood flow to the brain to help focus and even reduce stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get Organized<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who says school supply shopping is only reserved for the beginning of the school year? It\u2019s a great time to take inventory of your child\u2019s school supplies at this time. Are notebooks full? Pencils getting short?
