However, continuing to expand their knowledge, especially through reading over the summer, is critical! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reading isn\u2019t only an educational activity, it\u2019s a way to explore new topics, interests, and expand imagination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Reading is Great for Summer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reading is the perfect summer activity because it\u2019s fun, it can be done almost anywhere, and the options are endless! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No matter what your child\u2019s age is, if you want to keep them reading over the summer try incorporating the following methods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Keep your child reading over the summer<\/strong> <strong>by<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pack books or purchase at your destination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a reading log to track finished books<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in a Reading Challenge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set up or join a book club<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1f-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1f-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1f-640x445.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1f.jpg 694w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pack books or purchase at\nyour destination<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having reading\noptions on vacation, in the car, or while waiting at events is a great way to\nencourage reading in your child\u2019s free time. It can be books or even\nkid-friendly magazines that interest them. It\u2019s important to have a couple\noptions for the more reluctant readers because they still may be uncovering\ntheir interests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can even incorporate reading into a trip by stopping by\na bookstore at your destination. It can even be a local spot where you set a\ntheme for a book they must find. Once they purchase the book, they can include\na note about why they picked it and what they liked about it. This will get\nthem excited to pick out books and add to their collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use a reading log to track\nfinished books<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keeping track of books read is a way for kids to see what\nthey\u2019ve accomplished and be encouraged to continue adding to their list. By\nseeing what they have read, they will be excited to fill in the rest and may\neven be inspired to continue past the summer months. You can encourage your\nchild to read books of different genres to explore what interests them the\nmost. Oftentimes, there can be a reward or recognition for completing it\ndepending on who is running the challenge. This is a fun way to build their\nmotivation as they aim to achieve the challenge goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can incorporate the Kumon Summer Reading Challenge into your summer as there are a variety of activity sheets that allow kids to be creative and have fun. This challenge encourages students to read different genres all throughout the summer. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kumon.com\/resources\/how-to-instill-a-love-for-reading-in-your-child-this-summer\/\" aria-label=\"set up a book club for your child\">set up a book club for your child<\/a> or join an existing one within the community. A book club can be done with your child\u2019s friends, children that may be in other extracurricular activities, or even a local library. It can also be set up as a parent-child book club depending on the age!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The book club meetings can be as fun as you\u2019d like them to\nbe such as getting together in the park monthly or even have a pizza party\nnight. This will allow them to connect with others to learn about different\nperspectives or interests based on the books.
