Center Assistants are an integral part of any Kumon Center and they pla<\/span>y<\/span> an important role <\/span>both in center operations and <\/span>in developing <\/span>our <\/span>Kumon Students. <\/span>Many of them were former Kumon Students themselves, so they know the program inside and out<\/span>, and they possess the skills that the Kumon Method aims to impart on its students<\/span>. <\/span>Some<\/span> even aspire to<\/span> one day <\/span>have<\/span> careers in education or <\/span>child<\/span> care<\/span>. <\/span>Did you know that some of our Kumon Instructors even started as Center Assistants?<\/span> The possibilities are truly endless! <\/span>Here are just a few of the important functions they serve as part of the Kumon <\/span>Center.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Assisting Students<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Kumon <\/span>Students can enroll as early as age three all the way<\/span> through high school, so one <\/span>main <\/span>responsibility of any <\/span>A<\/span>ssistant is to support our students. Unlike tutoring, this support <\/span>offered on an as-needed basis <\/span>in order to<\/span> encourage students to find the answers on their own<\/span>. <\/span>They provide hints to guide students through their work<\/span> and help keep them motivated. <\/span>Based on their observations and interactions with students, <\/span>Center Assistants <\/span>provid<\/span>e<\/span> valuable <\/span>feedback to the <\/span>Instructor<\/span> who<\/span> can then <\/span>adjust a <\/span>student\u2019<\/span>s<\/span> learning plan and goals if needed.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Working with Early Learners<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many Center Assistants work specifically with <\/span>Early Learner<\/span> students who have <\/span>particular needs<\/span> and are still learning basic skills. <\/span>Some of these young students need to learn basic skills like how to hold a pencil and write their letters and numbers neatly before other skills can be developed. <\/span>T<\/span>hey<\/span> also<\/span> need help <\/span>learning <\/span>the Kumon routine and <\/span>how to work through worksheets <\/span>independently. <\/span>The <\/span>Instructor<\/span> will set <\/span>a specific set of goals <\/span>for each early learner <\/span>which may vary from day to day and week to week, so a bit of hands-on guidance from a Center Assistant <\/span>helps<\/span> keep them on track<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Grading & Recording Student Progress<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

For school-age Kumon Students, <\/span>correcting their mistakes is a critical part of the learning process.<\/span> H<\/span>aving worksheets graded <\/span>immediately after completion<\/span>,<\/span> allows <\/span>them<\/span> the opportunity to review <\/span>and correct<\/span> mistakes.<\/span> This helps to accelerate their learning as they can learn from mistakes, master material more quickly and move on. <\/span>Some<\/span> Assistants at the Kumon Center<\/span> called Graders,<\/span> will <\/span>grade both student homework and classwork. They also help record student results so that the <\/span>Instructor<\/span> can focus on tracking student progress, <\/span>refining lesson plans and <\/span>setting goals<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Communication<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

With<\/span> so many students to support, communication is vital. Center Assistants <\/span>help to ensure that students know what they need to do <\/span>and help keep the center organized. <\/span>For example, they might<\/span> help <\/span>students<\/span> check<\/span>–<\/span>in and check-out <\/span>on class days, respond to customer <\/span>inquiries, <\/span>or communicate updates to parents.<\/span> They\u2019re the Instructor\u2019s eyes and ear<\/span>s, <\/span>help keep the center running smoothly and help students focus on learning.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
