At the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Richmond Pecan Grove, our students’ health and safety is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19).
With that in mind, we are taking additional steps to prevent the spread of germs in our center. We have:
Made hand sanitizer available at the front desk and in the Parent Waiting Area.
Placed tissue boxes on every table.
Implemented stricter cleaning processes, frequently cleaning all commonly-used surfaces.
Staying informed is one of the best ways to stay healthy. You can obtain current information from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization:
Instructing your children of the following standard precautions can help reduce the risk of infection. Here are a few tips from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention:
Teach your children to wash their hands often. Washing with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds is ideal. (That’s about as long as it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice).
Teach your children the proper use of hand sanitizer in case they do not have access to a sink for washing their hands. Gels, rubs, and hand wipes all work well, as long as they contain at least 60% alcohol and if the hands are not visibly soiled. Hand wipes must be disposed of properly. Always read and follow label instructions when using hand sanitizer.
Teach your children to keep their hands away from their face and avoid touching their mouth, nose, or eyes when possible.
Teach your children to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into their sleeve or the inside of their elbow – not their hands. If a tissue is used, it should be thrown out immediately.
If you suspect your child has contracted any illness, it is important that he/she does not attend school, Kumon, childcare, or anywhere else other people would be exposed to germs.
Thank you for your help in keeping our children and our Kumon Center healthy. If we all practice good hygiene, health officials believe we can limit the spread of the coronavirus and other viral illnesses in our homes, schools, and other places where people gather.

What is KUMON?
KUMON is a worksheet-based Math and Reading enrichment program. KUMON worksheets are the heart of the program. Students study KUMON worksheets in Math and/or Reading daily. Students progress through the KUMON curriculum at their own pace with the goal of studying advanced materials!
What is the schedule?
Students come to the center twice weekly on a schedule of their choosing (typically Mondays and Thursdays OR Tuesdays and Fridays) and complete short daily assignments the other five days of the week at home.
Who provides instruction to students?
Our primary instructor creates a customized lesson plan for each and every student enrolled in our programs. The lesson plan is initially based on the results of the student placement test. It is then continually adjusted as the child progresses through the KUMON program. The amount of repetition, new material and level of difficulty of the worksheets are based on the child's performance against the lesson plan, as well as observations of the student by our primary instructor during instruction time. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.
Side Note: Our primary instructor is a former public school teacher. She is extensively trained and experienced in the Kumon Method, having worked as an assistant in a KUMON center since 2006 prior to earning her degree in education and continuing on to teach in a public school. Learn more about her by clicking here. You can also read more about her on the magazine Voyage Houston.
