Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Aveer is a preschooler and has been in Kumon for little over a year. He was very fond of being read to and counting since he was 2. He started the Kumon Reading Program and within a few months he had picked up reading words including 3 letter words and then progressed gradually to bigger words. Seeing the progress, we enrolled him in the Kumon Math Program as well. He started with number identification and sequences till 100 and very easily went on to addition of numbers.
During the pandemic, I think Kumon has greatly helped in keeping a routine where we can spend 30 - 45 mins a day doing his math and reading. Even as a preschooler he is already able to easily do 1st grade reading and math. He is able to read complete 2nd level and 3rd level "I know how to read" books and 2nd Grade Brain Quest books. We also have some magazine subscriptions which he loves to go through. Kumon has greatly helped him and we hope to continue this association which would keep him one step ahead in his education.
Edison and Edrin's Story
Thank you, parents, for sharing Edison and Edrin’ s Kumon Journey
Edrin has been enrolled in Kumon program since the 1st grade. Kumon has been a great help for him and his brother. He likes to read and is now encouraged andmotivated to do good in school. Kumon is helping him and his brother to get better grades. Edrin got 1st place in the Spelling Bee contest in the participating Bay Area Christian Schools when he was 2nd grader, and got the 3rd place medal in Math Reasoning competition when he was in the 3rd grade.Later we moved to Roseville and soon after kids started Kumon at Kumon of Rosevillewith Mrs. P. In the 4th grade at his new school, he received high scores in the Gifted and Talented Education program. Kumon has really helped and guided him to be a better student. Thank you so much Kumon.
Edison and his brother have been with Kumon of Roseville for many years now. They both appreciate Kumon for the help and are doing better in school. At first, they had to be to reminded to do Kumon work, but now most of the time, they do it on their own. Edison is enrolled in the Reading program and is making good progress. He has become a strong reader and daily worksheets have helped a lot. They both are better students, thanks to Kumon. Both Edison and Edrin are Honor roll students at Kumon of Roseville and are working above their grade level
Logan and Harlow's Story
Logan started Kumon during his TK year. I wanted something that would push him in learning as TK seemed too easy for him at the time. I am impressed with his ability to push himself and stay 3 grade levels ahead in both math and reading. At the end of 4th grade, he received the G by 4 award for getting into high school math at the end of his 4th grade year. He does all of this while competing at competitive level for both baseball and soccer. He is also a leader at school and helps facilitate deeper discussions during math, reading, history and science lessons. Harlow started her Kumon journey while still in preschool. She has excelled in her own right as she is one grade level ahead in math and reading. Kumon helped her to read at an early age, which has helped her tremendously in school. She excels in her studies while participating in dance, softball and playing competitive soccer.
Amelia joined the Kumon Reading and Math program at the Roseville, CA center in 2018. With Mrs. Pallavi’s encouragement, Kumon has quickly become a part of Amelia’s life. The Kumon exercises introduced Amelia to new concepts and different techniques, which help her excel in school. By completing the Kumon materials daily, Amelia is able to reinforce her skills and build up speed and confidence. When Amelia is not practicing Kumon, she enjoys spending time outdoors. She loves roller-blading, hiking, swimming, and dancing. Amelia is currently working at her grade level in Kumon and is on track to become a grade ahead before the next school year.
“Kumon is cool. It’s encouraging me to do my best in school”- Amelia
