About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I creates an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant.  Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Hi! I’m Michelle – the instructor for Kumon of San Carlos!  I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities to build their Math and Reading skills to maximize their potential!  It’s been fulfilling to see the multitude of students develop self-learning, independent work skills. It brought me joy for over the past 18 years to work with the San Carlos, Redwood Shores and Belmont student communities, and especially to support students’ academic progress through Covid.

I first learned of the Kumon program from Anita, my best friend from college who was the instructor at the San Francisco – Chinatown Kumon center.  It was there, while working as a marketing consultant that I was able to experience working with students and seeing how Kumon made a difference in so many lives, leading me to open Kumon in San Carlos.

In 2003, I opened the center after working in hi-tech marketing for 13 years.   My son Zach was born 2 months after opening, so he started Kumon as an infant!  Through my son and daughter, I have seen the benefits of the Kumon Program and how it can change a student’s life.   Now as a Kumon parent with 2 children in high school, I have seen how instrumental the program has been in building a solid foundation in Math and Reading, in addition to developing invaluable work skills and independent study habits. Enrolling them at a young age allowed them to master advanced concepts, benefiting their success on an academic and personal level.  Mastery of key concepts for Math and Reading has enabled them to handle multiple advanced classes in school.

Being a Kumon instructor has been a fulfilling role for me.   In addition to supporting the development of these young minds, I’ve served as a Girl Scout leader for 9 years and was the YMCA Project Cornerstone reader for 6 years.  With my passion for working with children, my aim for every student is to develop the skills necessary to become confident self-learners willing to take on any challenge, academic or not.

The founder of Kumon, Toru Kumon, once said, "Every child is a gifted child". It is what I believe in education, so my aim is to help as many kids as I can and nourish their mind and life skills.
