About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Ilona

Hello. My name is Ilona Sianturi-Hastie. I am the Kumon Instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Sanford, Florida. I was born and raised in Sumatra, Indonesia. I received my Degree from University of Indonesia in Russian Literature.

As a mother of 3 boys, I have seen how much the Kumon Method has helped my son. The daily practice with Kumon worksheets helps him to excel at school in Math and Reading and develops his study skills.

Before I started my own Kumon Journey, I held Corporate Officer and General Manager positions at a flight school. My responsibilities included but were not limited to managing accounts receivable, customer accounts, serving as a customer liaison, logistics and visa requirements, employee travel management, FAA Regulatory Compliance, TSA Regulatory & Security Compliance.

When I had my youngest son, I decided to stay close to him.

I have held positions in preschool education including work experience as a preschool lead teacher developing lesson plans including but not limited to cognitive, language, arts, fine motor skills, gross motor skills and social skills. I also implemented lesson plans and informed parents about their children daily through verbal and written communication.

I volunteered many hours teaching Sunday School in my 22 years in the US.
