We are happy to announce that we are implementing a Student Referral Program at our center. It will be an ongoing program. For more information about the program, ask about it next time you are at the center. We appreciate your commitment to the Kumon Program and value your business with the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Tallahassee - East.
Here at Kumon of Tallahassee-East, every time a student does work at the center, they have the opportunity to receive a ticket for their work. A student receives a ticket for their work when it receives a high score. At the end of each month, there is a raffle with the tickets, and the student who wins the raffle wins a gift card. Additionally, the student with the most tickets overall also receives a gift card.
Since Kumon is an individualized program, what constitutes a “high score” on a worksheet is also individualized. This essentially means that with the ticket system, each student has the chance to be rewarded for showing that they are trying their best and making progress, regardless of how their score relates to other students. We believe that this individualized approach to rewards is the best way to both motivate the student and help them realize how they can improve if they try hard.
At Kumon of Tallahassee-East, whenever a student comes in to the center to work, they receive a sticker to put on their sticker map. Once they have 25 stickers, they get to pick a prize out of the Kumon treasure box.
The stickers are used as an incentive for the students to physically come in to the center, because though Kumon homework is an essential and very large part of the program, it is necessary for the Instructor to see each student so that they can properly and personally evaluate each student’s progress. It is also necessary to personally evaluate each student so that the Instructor can create a personalized plan that will help each individual student improve as fast as possible.
Twice a year (usually in mid-December and late May), our Kumon Math and Reading Center of Tallahassee - East holds a special event for the students called Kumon Store. On a Kumon store day, the students will come in during their regular center time, but after completing their assigned work, they will get the chance to buy toys from the Kumon store using their Kumon dollars.
Kumon dollars are received every time a student comes into the center as a reward for completing all of their assigned math and/or reading homework. If they complete all of the work that had been assigned the previous center day, they receive one Kumon dollar. Additionally, students can receive Kumon dollars through a few other special events, such as when they join Kumon or on their birthday.
When the Kumon store day comes around, each item for sale will have a price on it in Kumon dollar currency, and each student will have the opportunity to buy toys within their price range. The toys range from simple bouncy balls and bracelets for $1 all the way the remote controlled helicopters at $70, so no matter how many Kumon dollars each student has, they will always have the opportunity to buy something. There is even a section specifically for older students with items like makeup and iTunes gift cards, so there is not only something for every price, but also something for every age.
The Kumon Store serves a dual purpose. Primarily, it creates an incentive for each student to complete all of their work each week, which in turn helps each student gain the most out the Kumon experience. However, it gives each student a sense of satisfaction and pride in the knowledge that on a Kumon store day, what they buy with their Kumon dollars is something that they have earned through their hard work, dedication, and perseverance. After all, the most satisfying rewards are the ones that you work for.
