About the Instructor

Introduction

My name is Anna Song, Instructor and owner of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Virginia Beach - Haygood. As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Virginia has always been home to me, even though I lived in South America and Europe for several years. I received my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Virginia, Master's in TESOL at Wheaton College in Illinois and Master's in Secondary Education at the University of Alabama. My pursuit of teaching and love of the Spanish language led me to Quito, Ecuador where I taught ESL for eight years. I met my Swedish husband while teaching in Ecuador, and we moved to Jönköping, Sweden where I taught English and Spanish at an international school for another eight years.

I am so thankful to be back in Virginia, where I decided to open a Kumon Center. I believe the Kumon Method really helps students not only gain academic knowledge but also to develop their work skills such as stamina, concentration, and grit which are beneficial to all aspects of life. It is a privilege to work with students at our center and to be an active part in their journey towards excellence.
