About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

I am Dr. Cortha Pringle, and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Virginia Beach - Red Mill.  I am originally from South Georgia and moved to the Hampton Roads area with my husband who is a retired Navy officer.  I received my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Florida State University.  I received my Doctorate of Strategic Leadership from Regent University with a primary focus in Organizational Management and Leadership Development of elementary and middle school students.

For over 12 years, I worked for the federal government in contract management and acquisitions. Prior to that, I worked at a Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., where I developed work-study opportunities for students. Additionally, I worked as a School-to-Career Coordinator and Vocational and Technical Education Program Manager for the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Education Center (LEARN) which served over 20 school districts.

Since moving to the Hampton Roads area, I have been actively involved in the Hampton Roads community through various community associations to include my church, the PTA and PTSA and worked with the Tidewater District PTA which serves Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach.  I have volunteered many hours in local elementary schools assisting students who were struggling readers.  My time volunteering created a passion for teaching, training, and leadership development with the secondary education community.  I have coupled that love and passion to empower students so they can embrace their learning potential to become leaders that will not only welcome diversity but understand that it is the foundation for growth and change. Since I opened my Kumon Center in 2019, I have been able to watch how I have impacted children and their families.

When I was looking for a supplemental program to assist my youngest son in reading, I was introduced to Kumon.  After researching Kumon, I enrolled him in the Reading Program.  Later, I enrolled my older son in the Math Program to enhance his math skills.  Now, my youngest son is also enrolled in the Math Program, and my older son is a Reading Program and Math Program Completer. I have first-hand knowledge of the value of Kumon and how it has enhanced my sons' love for learning and empowered them to not only meet their goals but exceed them.  I am a firm believer in the Kumon Program and the value it can add to any student's life to assist them in reaching their learning potential.  I love sharing this program to not only support my students but provide them with the ability to embrace self-learning by discovering their individual potential to develop their ability to the maximum extent possible.
