About the Instructor

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Aloha! My name is La'akea Bertelmann. I am a graduate of Kamehameha School's Kea'au. Prior to my acceptance into Kamehameha, I was a former student of the Kumon Math and Reading program in Waimea. After graduating high school, I moved to Idaho and graduated from College of Southern Idaho with a AA is Equine Studies and an AS in Equine Business Management. I am a current student of Southern New Hampshire University where I will be graduating with my Bachelors in General Studies, this December. As a former Kumon student, I have witnessed first hand how amazing this program truly is. Having my own child and experiencing some challenges with school led me to pursue my dream of opening a center here in Waimea. I am looking forward to providing an outstanding program for our local community!
